Thanks, Obama.

2014-01-07 12:17:43 AM
The FBI fact sheet previously stated, "The primary function of the FBI is law enforcement." But the mission has now been changed to, "The primary function of the FBI is national security."

Uh, you don't get to just go around reassigning yourselves, guys. You're DOJ, not DOD. Unless the president issues an executive order changing things, which he clearly hasn't.

2014-01-07 12:26:20 AM
The point of the change is to enable them to ignore the US Constitution when violating the 4th amendment. By stating their primary goal is national security, your phone conversations, email and web activities are now their business without warrant.

Yup. "National Security" is synonymous with impunity.

Ceiling Cat is documenting your masturbation habits for the government.

Hey reporters, if you don't know when the change happened, research! I bet the answer is on archive.org.

2014-01-07 07:15:07 AM
Since they arn't in law enforcement anymore, does this mean they *do* have an obligation to protect you now?

2014-01-07 07:15:32 AM
That's not true. There's one named O'Malley in the Nancy Grace pot thread right now.

2014-01-07 07:16:32 AM
The bigger it gets the more recursive, redundant and useless it becomes.
Watch the mission of your national security apparatus become simply self-preservation.
Just watch it.

Is the FBI a union gig like the TSA?
It should be.

The United States Secret Police have just been born, folks.

//We have become the Soviet Union.

How very Gestapo-like.

FINALLY!

I can fast forward through all those dumb FBI warning messages on my VHS tapes.

2014-01-07 07:19:17 AM
You know who else was interested in National Security?

2014-01-07 07:20:06 AM
But, who will investigate the UFO and monster cases of the X-Files? Surely, there is still a conspiracy of alien bounty hunters who have infiltrated the government.

J. Edgar Hoover?

There's more money in "national security."

2014-01-07 07:23:15 AM
Now they have to change the "Most Wanted" list to the "Sort of Wanted" list.

Not really, they have been replaced by stupid Department of Homeland Security warning messages. VHS tapes?? I'll get off your lawn.

2014-01-07 07:25:44 AM
Just another small step toward the government looking out for its own interests, *only*.

2014-01-07 07:26:09 AM
This sucks, I wanted to join the bureau to actually do criminal investigation on a national scale. Oh well

2014-01-07 07:28:41 AM
Now they'll have more time to orchestrate 99% of a terrorist plot, then herald the arrest of the guy they convinced to pick up a fake bomb.

Either way, they have a primary mission to infiltrate every private citizen's life and ruin our bill of rights.

2014-01-07 07:37:50 AM
This is easy: The FBI, like the NSA, is going to be doing illegal and semi-legal things even more. To have 'law enforcement' in their credo just looks bad.

2014-01-07 07:38:51 AM
Is anyone surprised at this? It's just yet another step in the militarization of our domestic law enforcement agencies. Now that law enforcement isn't part of their mission and homeland security is, they will be able to ignore due process even more than they have been.

When even our local police have more in common with the historical gendarmes and secret police of eastern Europe, it makes it pretty clear that our way of life has been perverted for the gain of a few by control of the masses.

How do you know if this president, or the previous one, has or has not?  It could be classified.

For example, the executive order establishing the NSA was classified for years.

2014-01-07 07:39:52 AM
It gets rid of the need for pretense at least.
Instead of having to find a crime to punish, you just do what you want and claim it was all in the name of national security.

They use to investigate anyone who wrote a letter to the editor opposing the war in Viet Nam

Guess what they do now for Farkers who oppose Bush's war crimes?

Stuff I've said since about 2003. But, you probably know how it is. People look at you funny. Tell you to stop being a buzzkill, etc. Now, a lot of the same people who told me I was just being cynical are quite frightened at how things have turned out.

I gave up and left. And, not to be a buzzkill again, I think it's probably beyond fixing.

It's a damn shame.  I have several friends who are pursuing their criminal justice studies specifically to work FBI law enforcement careers.  Hope they notice this and move into providing some ethics to police departments.

What a ridiculous image. That trapdoor isn't even slightly concealed, and that handle is a major trip hazard. And look at those jackboots. There's no shine to them at all.

I was born after 1980, and I fully appreciate the severity of this news.

The part that bothers me the most of course is that we have absolutely nothing we can do about it.  Your only real choice as an individual is to keep your head down and obey in order to keep yourself off the radar.

This is how oppressive regimes start.  Its small, seemingly insignificant changes, taking place over a number of years.

To put this into perspective:  How many Americans have been the victim of a terror attack on US soil.. well, ever?  Its such a statistically insignificant amount that it may as well not even exist.. we should literally just be ignoring terrorists all together.  Yet we have hundreds of thousands of people on payroll to combat this shiat and tens if not hundreds of billions of dollars is being dumped into "national security".

Its a sad, cold day.

Had to change it otherwise they should be arresting almost all of their higher ups.
