Yog-Sothoth: Prank Call of Cthulhu: How about erecting a monument to an Elder God?

I approve of this idea

I was born in oklahoma and i don't have a single problem with this. I do however have a problem with some of the ways people around here treat other people in the name of religion. My crasy aunt once explained why being racist was ok by using the bible story of noah. Apperently, when noah's son refused to turn away and ignor his father's drunkeness, he was turned black and cursed so everyone would know on sight he was (and his desendances) were to be treated different. Weird lady.

Anyone else finding that Raw Story articles end up being completely obscured with an advertisement every 5 seconds? Looks like another site to add to the "don't bother clicking" list.

The Oklahoma Capitol already has swastikas on it, so why do they need a devil statue?

Dammit! I had just put that game behind me.
Now I has a sad.

Yep.

Still feels weird to me not to be playing CoH on Wednesday nights.  I mean, I'd play most days/nights anyways, but Wednesdays I had a group night.  Started that group maybe five months into CoH being released and continued on to the end.

Yeah, but then the uppity Satanists started taunting them and making the situation worse.

Yep, heard that one myself many times, growing up in Oklahoma.  It was Ham, his son Canaan and all their offspring who were known as the tribal name Canaanites, who they believe was forever cursed in such a manner due to pissing off a very pissed (drunk) Noah.  Noah was (depending upon interpretation) either nude, or engaged in some sort of sexual hanky-panky and Ham got his brothers and tossed a blanket on the ol' boy.  Noah wakes up and curses Canaan and the following generations of Canaanites to be slaves, under the "ownership" of Ham's brother's Shem and Japheth.

Centuries later, the Israeli monarchy apparently used this story to defend their subjugation of the Canaanites and enslave them.

Your Aunt wasn't as "weird" as you probably thought, this was taught in nearly every Southern Baptist and fundamentalist church as being an undeniable truth based on the "gospel" for generations.  I can still remember many of my youthful
acquaintances citing to Ham/Canaan for the reason why anyone was black in the first place (referred to them as "bearing the mark of Ham/Canaan").

This was part and parcel of how they also challenged Evolution as this was there means of trying to explain away the various "races."  According to Church teachings, the notion was that after the great flood, everyone was basically "white" but after Ham pissed off Noah and was subsequently cursed, Canaan and the generations descended from him were "cursed" by being made black.

Sad, but true and I bet that there's still more than a few churches in Oklahoma and the south that still hold fast to this view.

Weaver95: Ayn rand and her objectivist ideology are essentially the same belief system as Lavey and nis flavor of satanism...Lavey even admitted as much. I suppose that's why I'm always confused she's omens says theyre a Christian that mixes rand into their ideology. That's like a black man who joins the kkk to promote racial diversity.

I always describe Satanism to people like this: It's libertarianism + magic.

Lee451: If atheists, satanists,et al wanted to make a statement, they would take the money they are raising for the goat statue and use it for a real cause, such as the child who cannot blink and needs $20K just to be diagnosed (other link/thread). These people are proud to be harassing Christians when they could be doing actual good.

You want to "fix" the child who cannot blink?  Who will protect us from the Weeping Angels?
