natazha: "she rounded up her clients"

And precisely why did a group of people that were "eating quietly" need rounding up? More likely, they were acting out (AKA making a lot of noise, wandering around and annoying everyone else). I've seen caretakers just sit and munch away while their "clients" toss food, bang on their trays, scream, throw tantrums, etc.

Hmm, maybe because mentally disabled people might need more time than an able-minded person to grasp the concept 'we're going home now'? I mean, hell, you have to 'round up' adults with no attention span sometimes, even if they aren't being a pain. There's a  reason there are professionals hired to do this shiat. It takes time.

EdNortonsTwin: Seriously, if you don't like being pelted by half eaten hamburgers and greasy fries you can just move to another table. Of course that also shows that you are an intolerant bastage.

Or you can just make up things to fit your own personal narrative.  It's hard to argue with the imaginary case you have created in your mind.

Maybe you can have a few disabled people vomiting on your mother's lap in your version of the events?

/Or maybe they were throwing sharp knives at your kids?

Soon after she was asked to leave, she rounded up her clients and left.

This makes it sounds like she hopped on her horse, and then rode around lassooing
''tards as they scrambled about the dining room.

/its a pretty funny image

Dragonflew: simkatu: If you are a patron that is disturbed by a handicapped person making funny noises then screw you, seriously.

Exactly. People with disabilities have carte blanche, you're not allowed to be disturbed by the screaming or flying food. It doesn't matter if you have paid $5 or $200 for your meal, you must keep your mouth shut if the atmosphere and your experience is completely ruined by someone with mental disabilities.

Smh. Folks like you are the reason these people spent generations jailed in hospitals. Fark your atmosphere. Be a human being.

I worked with retards. We got this one kid, Mongo. He's got a forehead like a drive-in movie theater, but he's a good ship. So we don't bust his chops too much.

Sin_City_Superhero: In a statement issued to News10, Dennis and Vicki Caldwell, the local owners of the restaurant, said, This recent situation involved a food fight within their group, and disruption to our other guests.

The Caldwells added it wasn't the first time such an incident has occurred.

We have consistently attempted to work with these guests and accommodate their needs as best we can, their statement read.

Gastinell says there was no food fight and her group was well behaved.

"We went in to eat. We weren't disruptive," she said.

What's the more likely scenario:

1.) McDonald's manager kicks out a group of paying regulars who are quietly enjoying their lunch, because they appear to be retarded

or...

2.) A group of retards got loud and rowdy, disrupting business and disturbing other patrons?

I will accept 2 if it the manager can demonstrate a history of refusing to serve non-retarded noisy children who eat there.

Actually, I won't, as mentally disabled people deserve a bit of slack.

mainstreet62: I don't understand why it's so difficult to be nice to mentally handicapped people. Oh, you were expecting 5 star service in a McDonalds? Let me sing you the song of my people!

Is it that hard to understand that their lives suck over something they had, and STILL have, no control over?

Get over yourselves, and count your blessings.

According to the franchise owners, this group had food fights on multiple occasions.  Would you excuse that behavior in your establishment if the perpetrator had a mental handicap?  I might, but only once.

Yeah, It's all I can do not to smack the crap out of people who aren't retarded yet act like it.
Cell phones, and yakking it up while driving. Walking talking soon to be TBIs, and they have no idea how close they come on a daily basis to becoming a sole family member in a PRAC 811 project, Pissing their pants like a GOP senator trying to move more money toward Freedom! and PATRIOTISM!.
And THOSE folks actually almost qualify for being retarded.
You get 6 folks in a Mickky Dees that have little or no IQ points and it's no fault of their own, and you gotta just think, there' but for the grace of FSM, go I.
And I don't often eat at McDildoes, but when I do, I thank his noodely appendeges I dont' work in one.

Lady Indica: I went to a Catholic HS that was not close to my home, so I had to take public transportation early on and then later again when I farked up my car. The morning bus had a large group of disabled adults (all with various forms of mental retardation). They could be extremely loud sometimes, but they were NEVER a problem. The only 'problem' they ever presented was being loud and occasionally having arguments where one didn't want to sit with others, or the one couple among them would be overly affectionate (not like teenage PDAs, more like little kids with crushes being loud and cute).

But these were big retarded adults and even though they took this same bus every single day to their job (they all worked in the same program, not sure what they did I felt it was rude to be too nosey about it) at least once a week there'd be some able bodied jackass who'd be a jackass. Sometimes it was just stares, mutters, and other shiat. Sometimes they'd actually flip out on the bus driver and make comments about how 'these people' should be on a short yellow bus or some shiat.

And this group knew it, they were not oblivious to this shiat. And they'd mock them so hard, it was hilarious. It was like watching a clique of kids just demolish a pain in the ass adult.

They sometimes made me feel uncomfortable, not because they were doing anything wrong, but because I felt awkward and unsure what to do. Or couldn't tune them out because they were noisy. But none of this was THEIR problem, and I never made it such.

I've never seen a group of adults disabled in this way EVER create a problem in a public space beyond what I mentioned. It intrudes on people's comfort zones, and so the fark what...that's not their problem. And I'd take them over rowdy teens every single day of the week, or crying children. And if I lived locally I'd be making sure everyone boycotted the fark out of that McDonalds.

farkied....and favorited.   awesome post.  thank you...very much.

Meh,   I don't think MickyD's did much wrong.

In our town if a group of 4H teens or a group of YoungLife kids hold thier meetings there,  and are very quiet they would probably not be asked to leave.    But if they hangout and become a problem, have a food fight and are disruptive.... they too would be asked to leave and not do business there.     Same-same.

THIS
I work in a group home for the developmentally disabled.
While the guys have their limits and deficits, they are just about the furthest thing from 'stupid' that I've run across.

They know what cards are in their decks, so to speak, and they play them brilliantly.

Staff who come on board thinking the guys are 'just so special' and deserve sympathy for their condition wind up dancing a merry jig and wound around fingers.*

'Retarded' or not, you take what you have available to you and you make it work for you.
Wow...that's...that's just normal, isn't it...

* Coming from a background of helping elderly/disabled, I'd already learned about 'How not to be manipulated'.

First, the throwing of food was disputed. We have a he said/she said situation here. Second, in your original comment you suggested that you would not "keep your mouth shut" if metally handicapped individuals were "ruining" your meal. That suggests to me that you would do more than sit quietly and just be bothered by it. To respond to your question, I go to a Chinese resturant in the area for lunch a few times per month. There is a woman who, musch like toewoman in the article, comes to the resturant with a group of 6 or 7 mentally handicapped people. It is a buffet-style resturant. Sometimes, I may get stuck behind one or three of the handicapped people in the line. Or course, they need a little bit of assistance to communicate what they want to the server behind the counter. Is it an inconvenience to have to sit behind them and wait for an extra 5 - 10 minutes? Sure. i'm at lunch where every moment counts. But as a human being, I'm not going to sit behind them huffing and puffing or toe tapping (as some assholes do) to show how my life is ruined because of their presence. What you'll find out one day is that life is far too short to biatch and worry about some of the stupid shiat people worry about. You're complaining about the "atmosphere" and here are a group of people who may not have the mental capability to see the world as you do. Consider yourself blessed.

If someone is throwing food and being obnoxiously loud in a restaurant, that person is the one being a dick, not the other people who notice said dickish behavior and get annoyed. Doesn't matter how retarded you are, you can still act like a dick and should get called out on it.
