there will be deaths.

If that were the case, there would be no one in Atlanta as they would have died up north before they moved here.

I blame Cehnada.  Forecast low tonight is 4.(That's F not C for those who use the inaccurate C scale).

Wow!  And where I live they say it might get all the way down into the upper thirties tonight.  Brrrr.

Meanwhile, a bit west of Boston, its approaching 50f, and so foggy I can't see the wood shed at the back of my property.

Damn global warming.

-48F in Fargo, ND right now so I'm chuckling at -4F.

Thankfully, I'm headed to Las Vegas today to cover the Consumer Electronics Show. Now it is just a matter of if the airline will keep the scheduled departure or cancel because of the cold.

All flights to and from Chicago have been cancelled, so a little worried.

I use the M scale (Milligrade).  Freezing is still 0 degrees, but the boiling point of water is now 1,000 degrees M.

So a nice summer day is about 250o M, and a cold day is -30o M.

Much more accurate than the WirFahrenGegenEngellandheit scale.

Meanwhile, I'll be fixing a fence later today in the Puget Sound area, where we're looking at a high of 46F with little wind. It's lovely here right now.

I moved to Atlanta from Chicago.

So I'm really getting a kick out of this reply.

I moved here to get away from this crap.  At least the roads didn't freeze last night.  6 degrees tonight should cause a lot of busted pipes around town.  A coworker of mine had one break 3 years ago because it was running through the uninsulated part of his attic.  Another example of the outstanding McMansion construction you can get around here.

Ah, yes, the inability to feel the cold is the first sign of the onset of hypothermia.  If I were you, I'd draw a hot bath, take two quick shots of whiskey, and soak for a while.

Meh, in Georgia. SE of Columbus... yeah it's cold... so what... It's winter...
It'll be single digits at my house tonight... 3rd time in the 10 years I've lived at this location...

Poor little delicate flowers.

Since we're talking about the weather, wanna look at the wind? Click here - Link to http://earth.nullschool.net/, I don't think I ever saw this thing on the Geek tab - then click on the word "earth" and select different heights.

Question for Farkers who know this stuff, since I've never had to wrap my head around altitudes expressed in units of pressure before: Is that the jet stream on the 250 hPa view? If 'yes', is it always there?

We had a snownado in Chicago this morning.

The extremely cold air (-20) and gusty winds are clashing with the warm lake temps, creating waterspouts.

It's always a bit warmer by the ocean, Atlantans. I suggest you march down there to escape the cold. And if you get chilly, just burn a few towns along the way.

There are all ready school closings for Tomorrow because of the cold, I wonder what the list will be like in the morning.

Today here in Arkansas we have a high of 21 and a low of 7, current windchill is 1 (all in F).  I'm just upset it didn't snow or ice over so I could pull people out of the ditch and make some quick money.  People will pay a random stranger $50 real quick over the $125 tow truck fee.  Southerners have no concept of "don't hit the brake in ice, just drive slow".  I miss my old place out in the country.  The second it would start icing up I'd set up my front porch to hang out on (on a major hwy so I was normally on the back porch) and just watch the horrible drivers pass by.  I also had a buddy that live 3 miles up the hwy and we'd call each other saying something like "Have you seen a blue car yet, one passed by me a few minutes ago?"  "Nope"  "Well, I'll drive one way you drive the other, we'll meet in the middle and lets make that money.".

No, I don't feel bad charging people to pull them out of a ditch.  You shouldn't drive in the ice if you don't have the right vehicle or the money to cover your ass when you get stuck.

/Has pull people out of the ice with a come-along and a '97 Miata
//I really miss that Miata
///The funnest car I've ever drove.

I have a friend who moved from upstate NY to central GA this summer (she's originally from Detroit).  Watching her FB posts about the panic over the cold has been amusing (esp. since last week we had a high of -2 here one day..and tomorrow's high is supposed to be 4).

It is morally wrong to allow a fool to keep his money.

I'm sick of hearing about wind chill as if it's a useful measurement.  Unless you're hiking above the treeline in a t-shirt it's really not a big deal.  Put on a freaking jacket with a hood, wind chill mitigated.  Get on with your life.
