I made a trip to central MI a few years back for a wedding, and what struck me was this:  Blight, abandonment, poverty abound yet nearly every single yard had an ATV, a snowmobile or both.  Maybe the government issues them to everybody there.

It doesn't take more than an inch or two to ride a snowmobile. Just sayin.

Yet, I'd bet you still aren't allowed to.

I live in Central MI, I have 3 sleds, 1 four wheeler, and 3 motorcycles.

Different laws apply to different countries...but here in Canada that's a no no on a grand scale. Highway Traffic Act, Ontario-

Driving on King's Highway or secondary highway
5.1Subject to subsection (2), no person shall drive a motorized snow vehicle upon the serviced roadway of the King's Highway or of a secondary highway except to cross. R.S.O. 1990, c. M.44, s. 5 (1).

Just saying.

Probably not. But the video title suggests it's because there's sooo much snow when in fact it's just someone being a dumbass.

The fact that it is from a 'street racing forum' was all I needed to see to realize they were dumbasses.

Meh--no more dangerous than a motorcycle.  If I were a cop that night I'd just let it slide.

Not like a cop could possibly catch you unless you were farkin stupid enough to film yourself doing it and post it online for all to see and trace back to where you posted it fro... ohhhhh, yeah...

My sled flops over like a beached whale on ice and hard pack. Riding down the highway would be a death sentence.

/works just fine in 6' of powder.

The headline suggests that or that's what you inferred all on your own? Because I don't get that when I read it.

The video title says

How much snow in Detroit ?
Enough to ride a snowmobile down I-94 highway !

To me It infers there's a lot of snow. If not trying to infer a lot of snow, why not just title it "riding a snowmobile down I-94 highway" ?

My bad, you said video title but I was thinking the headline.

I'm sure he isn't allowed, but the cops aren't likely to stop him either.  We've had a few snowmobiles chased by police over the last few years, without one being caught.

Detroit got snow, but not all that much.  They got less than a foot, Flint got 17".  Saginaw got even less than Detroit.

I don't even want a sled, I want a quad with a plow, since quads are a year long toy.

Look up "pond skimming".

This happens all the time after a storm.  No big deal.

Same here, but not legal.  It only pisses the cops off.  Interesting enough, Mackinac Island does allow snowmobiles during the winter.  They say because the machines don't actually touch the island and therefore doesn't break the law about motorized vehicles ON the island.  I'm sure other parts of northern MI allow them, but our bigger cities frown on running them.
