Holy shiat, I used to live right down the block from there, at 560 West 43rd (corner of 11th). Hope the neighborhood holds up. At least there's an FDNY station between the two buildings (which, incidentally, was completely wiped out on 9/11).

This man is an idiot:

@MickeyAtwal Still stuck. Too much smoke on hallways. Elevators not working. Standing in balcony with wife and 2yr old.

Buildings have emergency stairways for a farking reason!

"Unfortunately, in this fire, it appears that the victims may had been originally inside in their apartments safe and exited the apartments and become the victims in the stairwells themselves," said Assistant Fire Chief John Sudhik.

I've been following this on the news since it started because I have a good friend who lives there. He wasn't home and his apartment is relatively okay. Phew.
It's heartbreaking. One person was killed and other seriously injured. If there was a positive piece to pick up from this is that the NBC affiliate and other news outlets referred to the men as "a married couple" and "the man's husband". Just a few year's ago it would be "the man's partner" or "his roommate" or not even mentioned at all. The story on DNA.info is an example.
For a short while the words looked odd to me because it hadn't been seen before but glad that's how it will be from now on. The survivor also won't have to go through legal wranglings and heartaches with finances and burial etc.

"It took over an hour and a half for about 150 firefighters to get the blaze under control."

How did 150 firefighters fit in one apartment?
Obviously they weren't all at the apartment. Must have used a bucket brigade.

You're missing out.  Gordon Ramsey is one of my favorite TV personalities, and I hate most TV.  Whats sad is when you compare the US version of his shows to the UK versions... they drum up the drama so ridiculously in America... makes me sick.

One of his shows, the F-Word is pretty good.  Especially the episodes with James May and Jeremy Clarkson on.

That's how it was shown on the front pages of the local papers, however, the victim did do the proper thing in this kind of situation, he tried to get out via the stairwell,  it's just that luck wasn't on his side.  And that guy who was tweeting is a total dumbass.  You have to be a real attention whore to go around tweeting a life or death emergency situation is occurring around you.

I read a preview that said this, so I never even bothered to watch. What's the point if he doesn't eviscerate an 8 year old on prime time?

His British shows are great.  I was online watching Ultimate Cookery Course or something it's called where he shows how to actually make things from, I guess, his own kitchen.  Has interesting tips and things about all kinds of foods.

Second this. I admit that I was chopping onions all wrong before I saw that segment on his show.

Clarkson's been eating lobster poop for years, it turns out.

Seriously, I miss that show. I have no idea why BBC America dropped it for the American 'Kitchen Nightmares'.

/and easy on the Star Trek:TNG, please

He doesn't yell in the adult version either so I don't know why a previewer would expect it in the kiddie version. There is a huge difference between the UK version of Ramsey and the US version though. The UK version of Kitchen Nightmares, while uncensored so you can hear the cursing, is overall much tamer and less confrontational.
