Moose are ornery and can be dangerous as hell if you mess with them.  They got off light.  I don't remember the exact distances anymore, but I remember in one of the Canadian National Parks the recommended distance to stay away from moose was further than for grizzly bears.

Misconduc: Funny, I wish it was a male moose during mating system, he would of been pounded in the ass and dead in 2 seconds flat.

My friend told me a funny story about an incident he witnessed this summer at the place we worked. There was a resident moose family living in the woods up on a hill. He said that one day in the fall a couple of women and their dumbass yappy dogs went up the trail into the woods, where not only mom and the yearling baby were, but dad was also hanging around, since it was rutting season. He was doing his work when he heard this enormous clattering and snorting up on the hill--from a quarter-mile away. He knew it was the bull moose so he stopped what he was doing and watched. The bull suddenly burst out of the woods, pawing and snorting and galloping and making a huge racket. He waited for the hiking people to be killed, but after some more commotion, the bull ran away.

Later on, the hikers came down and he asked them if they'd noticed that they'd disturbed the moose family. They said Nope, they hadn't noticed a thing. Hadn't heard anything either. Just the dogs.

Okay, that's adorable. I just hope the story doesn't end up like this.

I've worked with domestic sheep for most of my life, and that includes adult rams with two or more horns. I know how to work with them, and what to watch for. They're not even wild, and even they can be unpredictable. (Especially when they hit puberty. Hoo boy.) A few are like big puppy dogs, and love attention, but most of them aren't completely trustworthy. Even if they're mostly trustworthy.

I'm trying to imagine what that would be like if they were as big as a moose or a stag. And also wild. Holy crap.

cryinoutloud: Later on, the hikers came down and he asked them if they'd noticed that they'd disturbed the moose family. They said Nope, they hadn't noticed a thing. Hadn't heard anything either. Just the dogs.

Some woman had a lap rat (poodle I think?) and she always ignores when the moose are mating. Her poodle, noticed however when it get stomped to death. I honestly thought it was a squirrel who got run over when i seen it, i wasn't sure what the woman was going bat shiat over only to realize it was her very flat poodle.

I doubt she will be walking down the road again with more lap rats, hell I don't even let my german shephard outside when its mating season, those moose will curb stomp anything. I did have a sheep for a yard ornament, well it WAS a yard ornament until some moose fell in love with it and trashed it.

/Rip my Serta sheep!

Don't Troll Me Bro!: Moose are ornery and can be dangerous as hell if you mess with them.  They got off light.  I don't remember the exact distances anymore, but I remember in one of the Canadian National Parks the recommended distance to stay away from moose was further than for grizzly bears.

Moose are like the hippopotamus of North America.  Everyone is afraid of bears and mountain lions, but it's moose that injure the most people every year. Mama moose are very thorough in killing threats to their cubs.  They come back and trample you a second and third time, just to make sure.

Danger Avoid Death: Monkeyfark Ridiculous: DNRTFA, what meaningless or humiliating tasks did they require of the moose?

rka: ArcadianRefugee: That's why you only post photos and not videos.

"The photo was edited; no crime was committed. Stuff your fine up your ass."

Uh, it was two dipshiat teenagers. It's not like it takes anything to put them in 2 separate rooms and wait about 10 minutes before one of them starts blubbering like a little girl and rats both of them out.

I was speaking more generically, not specifically about people stupid enough to risk pissing off a moose.

/deer are big enough to make me think twice
//saw a video of a moose trampling a guy ... *shudder*

Should be at least another zero on that figure.

encephlavator: As if ski runs, high speed quad chairlifts, sno grooming machines, slope side mcmansions, Gulfstreams, Humvees and off leash dogs that you can find at any of the big ski towns in the mountain west are wildlife friendly.

/end exposing the hypocrisy

That looked more like "a moose ran onto the ski run" and less like "we harassed a moose." Perhaps there was more video showing actual harassment?

Yeah, I know how dangerous moose can be but bloody hell. If I was rippin down the mountain full of adrenaline and there was a big herkin beast running in front of me I probably would have tried to keep up for a bit too. It's a ski resort for Christ sake that has allready ruined the habitat for the most part. Send the fine to them if you  want to stick it to the real perp.

Though I would rather pay $250 than be stomped to death.

Hey, haven't seen you around for a while.

And yeah, don't piss off moose.  Especially don't piss off cow moose.  Bull moose are bigger and can certainly kill you real good, but if you manage to get up a tree they'll eventually get bored and leave.  Cow moose hold grudges, and they will wait for you.

or maybe a hospital bill, would have been funny if the moose turned and charged.

So very much THIS.

/lucky they weren't killed.
//dumbasses.

Really? More? I'm not saying they probably shouldn't have been harassing a moose, but don't we have better things to worry about than kids chasing a moose.
