It took the parents 15 minutes to figure out some warm water would un-stick her tongue from the pole?

*sigh*

She had to go to an E.R.? Kids are too damned fragile these days.

This is news?

My brother once got his head stuck between balusters.  I didn't know I was supposed to alert the media.

I've actually never seen that movie...

Now I have a reasonable idea about everything that happens due to the constant references to it around Christmas, but I've never watched it

There's nothing wrong with it, it's a cute movie or whatever but you're right, even if you haven't seen it you probably get the gist.

/except all the graphic nudity, which was inappropriate, IMO

Ditto here. I just never bothered tuning in for the yearly marathon.

"the swelling in her mouth is expected to last about 6 weeks" - I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole.

Double Dog Dare is sufficient up to, and including, the age of 12.

In most situations, yes. But in case of Rubber vs. Glue, the court concluded that in a group larger than 4, a double dog dare may fall short.

"In the heat of battle, my father wove a tapestry of obscenities that as far as we know is still hanging in space over Lake Michigan"

While the movie itself is just okay, some of the things said in narration are masterful, for sure.

I've never seen the entire film, in order, from beginning to end, but I suspect I've seen nearly all of it in disconnected chunks on other peoples' TVs over the years - the frozen pole scene probably most of all.  How did these parents need 15 minutes to figure out "warm water will fix this"?

nathanjr - well played sir!

Well, yeah, considering it was in the context of incest it was more than just inappropriate.

This happened to me on the front bumper of my father's car. I don't remember much about it but I think it must have been my lips and not my tongue that got stuck because it was accidental: I slipped. The news weren't called and I although I don't remember how I was unstuck I don't think it took long.

On another occasion I dropped something under the outdoor basement stairs and got my head stuck while retrieving whatever it was. This one was my fault. A piece of wood was used as a lever to distance to two stairs so I could remove my head. Once more the news were not contacted.

"Maddie Gilmartin was stuck to the flag pole for 15 minutes. Her parents were able to get her free by using some warm water while waiting for EMS to arrive. Then they took her to the emergency room."

This whole family has Darwin salivating.
