Not sure whether I'm ashamed or relieved at how long it took me to figure out WTF "ChiBeria" meant.

I think I can assume my husband's MDW flight tomorrow will be cancelled.

He probably couldn't get through the 18" of lake-effect snow, gale-force winds or snowdrifts in his sedan anyway.

When you've got snow up to your bumper with a sheet of ice underneath it, it doesn't matter how many wheels you're spinning; you're not going anywhere.

Damn, woke up a shoveled about 4 or 5 inches of snow this morning and probably going to have to shovel at least another 3 inches by tonight. Just not looking forward to this -14 Monday morning.

Well, hello there, me too!  I was 16, and we pent hours shoveling a way out of our side street and a city plow went by and sealed off the street again.  We gave up at that point, and began to drink some beer, that one of the guys brother had stolen.  We had over 100 "pony" size bottles of Millers.  Good times.

Your nose hairs freeze when you inhale. You know it is cold when that happens.

And then you get that feeling like your eyeballs are frozen in the sockets.

Then you go indoors and it's like whatever is inside your nose thaws and your nose starts running like a mofo and you don't even have a cold or anything.

It's 10-18 depending on elevation right now (Boulder, CO) and we just had a snow storm end. I had to actually zip up my jacket when I was cleaning off my wife's car.

Best advice I can give you jaytkay, stay inside if you can. If you have any drafty openings in your home, put a towel or something at the doorjamb. Will save you money on heating in the long run.

Just got a call from a friend visiting relatives in MI letting me know his flight was cancelled. His can't get out and come up to Fairbanks, where it is warm, for another 5 days.

This is the Midwest! If you don't have 4 wheel drive and a winch; you're going to get stuck somewhere. It's in the brochure.

Lived in the midwest for 30 years and never had, or needed, 4WD much less a winch.

Your nose hairs freeze when you inhale. You know it is cold when that happens

REALLY cold is when the water in your eyes starts freezing. Your eye will tear to prevent it. Because of course what you really need is tears running down your face in super cold weather.

Global warming?  It's snowing in Chicago in January!  Al Gore!  There are two ships stuck in Antartic ice!

Indianapolis got roughly 10.5" during the legendary Blizzard of 78. I remember drifts were as high as some rooftops. We are looking at potentially 14-15" today, with the winds and arctic air coming late.

2014-01-05 03:40:21 PM
The snow this week wasn't anything close to what we had in '11. I was getting an early start on building a garage in what was a pretty mild winter to that point. The blizzard that ripped through dumped 22" in one storm, and ripped the tyvek clean off the the exterior. The drifts buried my Yukon (irony).

These little 8-10" bursts are pretty nice actually.

//Not a chance my work closes for only -10...

It fell in the USA. Ours.

Since the snow could have blown in from out of state, it can be regulated as interstate commerce by our federal government. Let's be socialist, and redistribute it to California. We need it more.
