There's a lot of dong showing in the NFL nowadays. Between new fabrics and an aversion to jock straps, there's not much left to the imagination. Matt Stafford should probably wear a few more layers cause he aint measuring up to the linebackers.

And men who like to watch figure skating?

2014-01-05 01:44:15 PM
One of my favorite sports watching memories - just after meeting Schembechler on the field when I was a kid, seeing Desmond Howard run (mostly because I was with my dad who was freaking escatic for both), and collectively the season I had college hockey tickets - was watching U of M / OSU's 100th game with my gay friend.

Especially because I also sold a single parking spot for $50 that day to a latecomer douchebag from Ohio wondering why he couldn't find parking when 112,000 people were a 10 minute walk away

I know straight men who like to watch Ru Paul's drag race.  It's figure skating for the 2010s.

/yes, actually straight
//like skating in the 90s, started watching cause the ladies were and then started appreciating the craft

/ BAH GAWD KING, I THINK SHE MIGHT BE A LITTLE TIPSY

I have no idea what that is.

But another Women In Sport anecdote, because Excel keeps freezing and restarting when I try to rename a worksheet:

I played soccer on a "co-ed" city league for 7 years.  "Co-ed" because it ostensibly was but of the 8-12 teams each year there would be less than half a dozen girls.  But a family friend coached and AYSO was expensive so there I stayed.  Then I got to high school and signed up for a women's indoor team in preparation for joining the team at my high school.

Holy.
Crap.

Granted, I was a girl, but after we had played a team like once no one shied away from me cause I could hold my own, and if they did then I'd take advantage of it.  But that all girls league, in comparison, was f--king vicious.  I got checked and held on the boards and got my hair violently pulled while we were fighting over the ball, multiple times a game.  Dirty f--king tricks whenever the ref was distracted, like straight up tripping someone.  Freaking fingernails - I'd have scratches up and down my arms.

Just... amazing.  I'd gotten covered in mud, kicked, stepped on with cleats, whatever in the other league - but it wasn't intentionally awful, it was just sh-t that happened in due course of the game (with one or two assholes every year, because there always are, who got carded pretty fast).  I really liked soccer - one of my happiest memories was a game in the pouring rain where we managed to pull a win out of a thunderstorm clusterf--k.  Head to toe in mud and bruises, exhausted as hell, great times!.

Then I played one season on an all girl's league.

/I joined cross and track instead

No men!  Not for you!  Put those volleyball players in burqas!
'Cause admiring them is sexist and evil.  Not like a woman watching football players in their tight pants, touching each others' butts.

FTA: Women do not discard the fact that these are human beings, not just numerical lines on a stat printout.

When men mention that a female athlete is hot it is dehumanizing, and turning them into sex objects. When women do it, it is recognizing the athlete's humanity.

The same people who do that during a football game are also liable to do the same to you when you're trying to watch a movie.

So no one remembers Chris Collinsworths admiration of Miles Austin's ass?

We also remember (and some of us) miss the era of short shorts in the NBA for pretty much the same reason.

2014-01-05 03:20:55 PM
I don't really know what WAR means let alone calculate it for players who have been traded. I also don't watch because of the tight pants. I am obviously history's worst sports fan.

Relatively new female football fan here. (Go Ravens, fan since 2005.) When leaning about football, my husband took the time to explain things between plays. Or we discussed during commercials. And I have learned a lot between that and Fark sports threads. I have started to learn things on my own and I even catch Sports Center now. So don't write off all female fans as "in it for the tight pants", please. I did pretty well in the Pigskin Pick'em this year until I forgot to pick the last week.

*high five* for being a Ravens fan.

And all of my guy friends know they can have an intelligent conversation about football with me. They also know that I will every now and then throw stats out the window and rate a player by attractiveness or other random factors.

2014-01-05 06:48:21 PM
I don't care how attractive a player is - you suck, get the fark out. If you're attractive, awesome, etc. and sign with a team I loathe? Fark you, get the fark out. I also play FFB so this author can suck my lady nuts.

Only 2 "emotional attachments" I can think of would be Sean Casey when he went to Detroit and Peyton Manning. Both great guys that did amazing things for the community. Casey was a lane clogger and Manning was a risky investment so of course, let them go. Still tugged at the heart strings.

Rock on! I lived in Baltimore for a year before my husband got me into football. It was only natural to become a Ravens fan, because as a kid I was obsessed with Edgar Allan Poe, and I had a purple and black bedroom.

Although nothing gives someone a nicer looking butt than skating.

I would have gone with dancing or , oddly enough, horseback riding.

All the chicks on my school's equestrian team had nice, shapely behinds.

Forget the bodies, a lot of hockey players tend to have pretty faces (minus the missing teeth - and that's what falsies are for).

Example: David Clarkson

And, though I won't post it, and he's an (ugh!) Flyer, Claude Giroux.
