The traditional methods of Autoplay flash ads, popups, and popovers are shiat, plain and simple. They're intrusive, slow down performance, exhibit utter contempt for the viewer, and of course are easy vectors for malware.And I can't speak for everyone, but I still pay plenty of attention to TV ads even with DVR. I probably pay more attention since I don't get up to leave and come back. I fast-forward, but stop and watch if something catches my eye. I wouldn't be surprised if DVR has had no negative impact on ad effectiveness, maybe even a positive one. The only thing that suffers are syndicated/rerun shows spammed across the schedule that non-DVR channel-surfers get hooked on because they don't get to watch on their terms.
Nemo's Brother: Drew is smart not to have comments available on sponsored links though. He tried that before and we trashed the company.
