It's a guilty pleasure. I know the science is about as bad as you can get but it's entertaining in a mindless sort of way.

Bad science in movies is nothing new.  I've watched it, and I agree, it's not a bad movie.

If a superstorm were to drag air down from miles on high, it would get compressed as it descends, which will make the air heat up. The faster the air descends, the hotter it will get. It would be a hot gust of wind hot enough to melt your skin off.

The Day After Tomorrow - Allan Folsolm:

In a Paris cafe, American surgeon Paul Osborn looks across the room and spots the man who murdered his father thirty years before. In London, a grizzled L.A. homicide cop named McVey joins Scotland Yard to unravel the mystery of a severed head and seven headless corpses. Neither American knows the link between the long-ago killing and the recent murders. But Paul's obsession to catch his father's killer will send him careening across Europe at breakneck speed, his life in the balance, his heart in the hands of a beautiful woman who may be his lover-or his downfall.

Somebody really should make it into a movie.

I haven't seen 2012 but from what I've heard it's great disaster porn.  Nothing wrong with a disaster porn movie, science isn't really important in fiction.  And anyone who says they don't pee in the shower is either a liar or a prude.

However, I triple dog dare you to watch Pi.

That sounds like a book you'd buy at an airport kiosk and then "accidentally" leave on the plane.

I find the next story in TFA about all Quadra fark you Android Mandatory Spellcheck al Qaeda in Iraq much more disturbing. Mission Accomplished. John Kerry mentions how we can fight al qaeda without troops. The weather at least will just get global warming or global colding and that's that.

The one where the guy "cracks" the stock market or he is going slowly insane, and we are not sure which?  I enjoyed it like I enjoy beatnik spoken word -- you don't try and understand it, just marvel at how high the guy was that wrote it.

I personally think the Day After Tomorrow wasn't even a Syfy-worthy movie that misled a populace to watch it. I still remember the trailer that excited many.

Myself, I prefered Catagory 6 and 10.5 to Day After Tomorrow.

Couldn't have put it better myself.  It's like the whole time I'm saying "What is this I don't even" and the wife says "You want to turn it off", and it's like a trainwreck.  "Nah, I guess I'll keep watching, but... WAT?"

Agreed. It's still one of my all-time favorite soundtracks. If you enjoyed it, you might like the one Jon Hopkins did for 'Monsters'.

If you're not familiar, here's one of the gems from the OST:

Oh don't you even start on The Core. That movie was awesome. Who cannot appreciate a writer who says "Screw it. We'll go with unobtanium." The only thing better would be if it had to be blended with McGuffinite.

NP; I have a musical hard-on for atmospheric film scores and such. Also, Kenji Kawai's OST for the original Ghost in the Shell film has some good stuff in it.
