I gotta say this.  My Dad's best friends father is a slum lord.  He goes around buying up condemned and cheap auction homes, hires a crew to come in a fix it up, and then rents exclusively to HUD families.  Now, this guy won't pay ANYONE over 8 an hour and does really shady things like buying the house and having his crew stealthily remove sheet rock/walls/etc, redo the electrical, fix it all back, let it sit for a few months, then call the initial inspector to see that all the house needs is basic repairs --> that's highly illegal because only a licensed electrician or a homeowner, and only at the place of their actual residence for the homeowner, can legally do electrical work here.  He only does the 8 an hour because he's really, really cheap (pretty much every one of his crew is a crackhead, literal crack smokers), and he does HUD families exclusively because he can jack up the rent and the government will pay it.  Now, this guy has about 30 or so rent homes that make between 600-800 per month, his own business that makes thousands a month, and yet, he's always "broke" and going through "hard times" so he can't afford to pay help decently.  We did the math and he usually makes his money back in 10-14 months, just from the money the one house pulls in.

I was working for him a few years back (desperate and needed the $$$).  One evening he was trying to get us to work more hours, we were 9 hours in during a 100 degree day @ 8/hr, and I said no, I have to get home, my dogs have been locked up for about 10 hours now and I need to let them out.  He suggested that I take my dogs to the pound so they wouldn't be a distraction and I'd be able to work more hours and a "good" job.  I kindly explained how most employers pay skilled workers $15/hr+ for the same job and unskilled's at 10-12, told him to go fark himself, got in my truck, and left.  At the time I had had my dogs for 6 years from puppies, I'm not gonna abandon them so I can make an extra 16 dollars at the worst job you can have.

The problem with America is guys like him, the ones who make more money than they know what to do with and refuse paying the people who make them that money a livable wage -- Or, as I like to call it, Capitalism.

Bob_Laublaw: Fissile: You have no idea of what goes on with New York Hasidim.

As an Arctic Circle dweller, I'm pretty far removed from the NY Hasidim scene. Embellish a little here.

==========

New York Hasidim....residing mainly in Brooklyn and Orange/Rockland counties, are an organized criminal cult.   This guy was not just stealing to make himself rich.  You can be sure million of those dollars were funneled to rabbis who use the money to build and maintain Frum schools, private security patrols, ambulance services,  health clinics...on and on it goes.  The rank and file Hasidim are totally dependent on these rabbis for everything.  They arrange marriages, provide housing, money, etc.  The rank and file then vote the way they are told to vote.  The Hasidim vote as a block, it's the most amazing thing I've ever seen.  The vote totals from the Hasidic communities look something like this:  78,345 for Candidate A -- 7 for Candidate B.  Those seven were probably people who forgot their glasses, or tripped inside the voting booth.  It's impossible to get elected dog catcher in the State of New York without the Hasidic vote.  In turn the politicians who are elected turn a blind eye to the blatant criminality taking place in the Hasidic community which includes, but is not limited to: Welfare fraud, insurance fraud, mortgage fraud, misuse of public funds, money laundering, etc, etc.

To sum up, the leaders of the Hasidim steal to provide for the rank and file so that everyone can live, but no one has to do any actual work.  In exchange, the dependent rank and file vote as a block, which gives the Hasidim enough political juice to keep stealing without fear of the pesky government taking an interest in what they are doing.

"He was involved in shady business deals, was known to carry around a lot of money and had a sealed arrest for forcible touching" in his past, one law-enforcement source told The Post.

I hope this officer gets fired and sued.  Sealed court documents are sealed for a reason, the public are not supposed to know about them.

From personal experience with sealed court documents, they are often sealed to protect the identity of juveniles, in this case, the 15-year old.

El Viento: Hasidim mafia on Discovery Channel in 3,2,1....

The Jewish mafia is a real thing

CSB

My dad was a builder in NoVA/DC, and one of his clients was an old Jewish man who had a lot of varied business interests, including an Italian restaurant in Arlington VA. It wasn't a very good place and didn't do well.

One night, it burned down and my dad was called to help inspect the place, along with the owner, his partners, the fire marshal and insurance adjuster.

We were looking at the ruins, and saw a bunch of anti Semitic graffiti and swastikas spray painted on the walls.

The owner and his partners were bemoaning the cruel nazis who had burned their business when 12 year old WW2 history buff me piped up:

"But dad, it wasn't Nazis who did this - the swastikas are backwards "

Dad just looked down at me and said, quietly, "Shut. The. Fark. Up"

I hate to be the one to break it to you but you were a bad employee.  You knew the conditions before you ever went to work for him, slum lord or not, and agreed by accepting his offer of employment.  I am not saying that you SHOULD have taken the dogs to the pound (though they probably would have found a better home that someone making only $8.00/hr) but don't white knight yourself for whining and going back on your word thus losing the trust of a job creator.

8/10. Was going to go with 7 but gave you an extra point for job creator.

Using sarcasm to make a point does not make K3rmy a troll. He makes a good point. The ridiculous nature of American employment means that employers feel as though they can make all kinds of arbitrary demands, from urine testing for drugs to suggestions that one abandon family to do a "good" job. Watch the bumper stickers you put on your car, too.

I scored him much lower for being so obvious. Lost a whole point for "job creator"... dead giveaway. 2/10.

Yeah, job creator should have given it away, but I take attacks against my dogs very personally.  I've had them for 9 years now and they're the children I've never had.  Except for 1 hospital visit where I was in isolation for 4 days, mrsa staph on my finger, we've never been apart for more than 12 hours, seriously.

I normally do not troll people but sometimes the voices in my head come up with silly responses.  Hopefully there are no hard feelings.  (And yes, 'job creator' was intentionally put in there as a 'tell')

I hear ya, no hard feelings.  I almost bit on the job creator part -- one month his net income dropped to about 10K/month because a few renters left, so he fired a crew of 6 except for 2 guys  (so monthly payout went from ~7680/m to ~2560/m) .  Apparently only making ~3K/month (from just the rent houses, btw; not including his store) profit isn't enough  Great job creator, huh.  People like him are the reason people like myself have little faith in Capitalism and the All Mighty Economy.  He honestly and genuinely means well, but he's just so out of touch with reality that he seriously thinks $8/hr is good pay these days, and that getting rid of my dogs was just fine and wouldn't be an issue with me because they're just dogs.  He's also a Republican with Tea Party signs in his yard and the stickers on his car.  I probably should have started the first story with his political stance since that would have explained it all in 1.

/Has a ton of stories about this guy

That story would have seemed more anti-Semitic, save for the fact that it appeared that so many Jews hated this Jew, which merely added local colour to his douchebaggery. The angle of his fur hat giving away some sort of deep character flaw was perhaps the most random thing I've read all week, and I read a LOT of random things.

buckler: I try really, really hard not to be prejudicial, but when I was in NYC, the Hasidic Jews made it difficult. With very few exceptions, they managed to validate every hateful stereotype leveled against Jews in general, and that really disappointed me, especially as I call several Jewish (non-Hasidic) people friends, and they have been incredible supports to lean on throughout my life. Somehow, I find this whole thing disgusting, but not surprising.

Replace hasidic Jew with Indian and you get my experience. I have never believed in stereotypes until I moved to an area with a slightly higher than usual Indian population. Every single time they see an opportunity to screw you over, they will. Mostly because they would rather try to screw you over to resell what they're buying than try to actually sign up for the same vendor you use because the vendor won't give them as good a cost.

Example: Pepsi 2L 99¢, limit 5. They try to come back 5 times a day to buy it up because they want to resell it. No, limit is 5 per household for the entire sale, not each visit. I told you this last time, and the time before that, and the 15 times before that. And no, you can't use the coupon for a 24 pk can on it. Yes, it scans, no I won't accept it because I won't get reimbursed.

It's possible, but the fact remains that sex abuse is more prevalent in the Hasidic community than it is in the Catholic Church.  Usually it's a some powerful member of the community farking little boys or girls of the rank and file Hasidim, in which case it's ignored, and the victims don't dare call the police.   Maybe this joker was farking the wife or children of a powerful rabbi?  Could be.  The only thing that's known for sure is that Big Furry-Hat has screwed over so many people, in so many ways, there are probably dozens, if not hundreds, of people who would like to see him dead.

I wonder how hard the investigators are going to work this case. I'm getting the impression from what they were saying about the guy that if they do catch the person responsible, they might charge them with something like 'open burning without a permit' or some other petty offense.

Since scumbags are normally murdered by other scumbags, it's good to catch them anyways.  It gives society two for the price of one, or in this case, four for the price of one, since it seems like there was a group of people that grabbed this guy and pulled him into the van.

My guess, he was killed by some other shady business partners, so it wouldn't be a big loss to track them down, and put them away for life.
