this is the better of changes stemming from 3409. now when the flight crew has bloodshot eyes, we know they had the chance to be well rested.

...or had a layover in denver.

The speaker at the last conference I went to was from the FAA. He described a plane crash in Cuba that was attributed to fatigue.
The pilot wanted to see the strobe lights that designate the "keep the fark away" area of the military base. He was so obsessed with seeing the lights that he banked the commercial plane long enough for it to stall and crash.

They later found out that due to his schedule he had slept only 8 hours during a 72 hour period.

Under the old rules, you couldn't fly (or at least be scheduled) over 30 hours in a 7 day period. Under the new rules, you can fly up to 54 in a 168 hr (7 day) stretch. It would be extremely hard to hit 54, but in theory it can be done.

In some ways the new rules are better, but, in others they are insanely stupid. Not to mention how relatively complicated.

Had a mess this trip. Schedule for 9 flight legs over the course of 3 days. I have completed 2 and canceled the rest. Not a great ratio.

Things are so complicated that the company had to set up a war room to help. When I called this morning(about 5:30 domicile time) to make sure I am legal, im end up talking to my bosses boss.  No one else really gets it.

Yeah, it has been a bit of a goat rodeo. We've known this was coming but the way the company has been acting, it's like they just found out 2 days ago.

I feel for you. I have to go to Omaha for a few days to finish one contract, then drag myself to Brisbane for a week. I'd like it more if I wasn't working.
