I grew up in the very northern part of the Midwest, and we had 4 seasons.  I was young, and didn't really recognize the spring or fall as much as I should have.  But Summer and Winter, you won't miss them.

Anyway, I moved to CO.  Denver first.  Then the mountains where the winter is harsher.  It's funny that Winter starts in late December for me now.  I can't stand all the sweating that I would do if it's, say 85deg in Las Vegas.

Yo thread, Ima let you finish but...

I heard somewhere that the Gulf of Alaska has been warming recently, as has the northern Pacific ocean.  Since these waters are warmer, the Jet Stream is pushed farther east with more magnitude (warmer water means more energy in the system).

So is this some sort of change of climate whereas the local temps in the lower 48 may get cooler as the Jet Stream pushes the previously arctic air into the lower part of the hemisphere?

/I really know nothing about this.

Polar bears that have been injured by hunters have tracked the hunter 75 miles, walked into town at night, killed THAT hunter, and walked back home.

We've got rules like that in some of our parks around here. We were camping in Alleghany State park a few years back and my then-wife and I forgot to secure a cooler outside. Raccoons got into it and strew food everywhere. I heard some loud scratching coming from the great room of the cabin and investigated. Shined a flashlight through a window and who was looking right back at me? A big black bear about a foot away. Hello! He was attracted by the food the damn raccoons were partying with. He left after about an hour and we remembered to secure our supplies in the future.

Yep, but moreso in the warmer months. There are laws in Juneau about keeping garbage inaccessible to bears. And occasionally a bear is spotted on Juneau's main street too.

Yeah...we only get moose on Main Street, here....

Makes sense too. Bears get too familiar & fond of human food become nuisance bears that often have to be destroyed. And that generally happens because people outright feed them even though it's against the rules, or the food isn't secure properly. From what I understand the former is the biggest problem.

Polar bears that have been injured by hunters have tracked the hunter 75 miles, walked into town at night, killed THAT hunter, and walked back home.

It's a combination of both. Bears are pretty inquisitive even when not in regular contact with humans. I was up in northern Quebec and stupidly portaged alone deep in bear country without my rifle. Realized at some point during the hike that I was being casually tracked by a black bear, and ended up in a stare-down with it just a few yards away in the ferns. Pretty scary, but not as scared as I would have been if it was a brown. She ambled away after looking me over for a few minutes. I was just a curiosity, fortunately.

Hellya... My friends never understand what they hear from my ipod... The awesome part is that my 20 year old daughter is just like me. She taught herself guitar and forced me to learn about Blues.  She loves Glenn Miller because of me. (many other things too).

The thing is, I listen to music. I listen for things like harmony, tempo, rhythm, vocals, etc... I appreciate music. Most people don't. It isn't snobbery, just love the medium...

As it happens, I *am* going to church tomorrow ;)

But normally I wouldn't get up that early.  NOOOO.  I'm dropping my car off at the mechanic in the morning, which means arranging for rides and what not.  I do get some bbq and the Packer game later in the day out of the deal, so that's good.
