In other news, ESPN thinks that's it's 59 degrees with a light rain in Philly?

Woah wait a minute, ESPN said Phillies would win by 6. Is this the same guy who said Alabama would win by 7 against "Auburn" as of the other day against "auburn" in a rematch? You know...even though auburn already BEAT alabama, and now phillies got beat?

To be fair, it was a really good game.  Not sure if the Eagles soared too high or not high enough.

I think if they improve their defense, especially that secondary (first round pick or sign a good free agent to play safety... Chung has GOT to go), they'll should be back in the playoffs again next year. And with Foles having another year of experience, they'll be even better offensively.

I'm pretty sure the Phillies can take game 2 in the series. Then they just have to take one back in NO and they'll have home field advantage again

Eagles had a hell of a season. Most diehard fans gave them a 6-6 season at best. For chip to walk in and make an offense work that ESPN said would never work in the NFL is awesome. Nevermind making it to the playoffs. His coaching style is such a breath of fresh air to Andy's conservative pass game.

And for farks sake we actually have a running game we can depend on, Andy ignored McCoy to disgusting levels. Chip plays him and the motherfarker gets the rushing title.

The Eagles couldn't stop the run the entire game. I had a bad feeling when Mark Ingram went for something like 19 yards on the first play from scrimmage.

There are some good players on defense, but not enough, and they need to get better. Boykin sometimes looks like the second coming of Brian Dawkins, and Ryans and Barwin have played really well. All in all, I'm happy with the season--it's a huge improvement over last year and there's plenty of reason to be excited for next year.

I'm surprised you posted that as early as you did. I was ready for the Arctic last night.  Just glad it wasn't windy, but the high 20's wasn't too bad.

We had our chances last night.  Credit to Brees and the Saints for their first road playoff game ever in front of a loud and hostile crowd.

Looking back on this season, last night's last second loss sucked.  But to turn around the same team that went 4-12 last year and go 10-6 in the regular season with a rookie coach and win the NFC East is pretty impressive.  This team is only going to get better.

I don't know if they need better coverage linebackers more, or safties that can close distance quicker (and tackle).  Not sure I'm sold on the 3-4 quite yet.  Any way, the team is headed in the right direction. for sure.

I was surprised by that, considering how thoroughly they bottled up Forte a few weeks ago.  I think DeMarco Murray last week exposed the fatal soft spot.

It wasn't the playoff losses, but the fact he lost them in the same way every single year, Reid and the front office never made any changes. No running game, no quality receiver, too many passing plays, a fanatical devotion to salary discipline, bad clock management and an inflexibility to make in-game adjustments that shows up on the autism spectrum. And this happened for over a decade!

Reid is a solid coach, the best coach in Eagles' history one of the better coaches in the last 20 years, but his teams never overachieved. He was never able to get more from his players than what they had on paper. That's what separates the great coaches from the good ones.

Think about it, nobody expected the Chiefs to win yesterday, Vegas had them at +1.5, they lost by 2. Typical Reid performance.

2014-01-05 09:35:45 AM
I'd call that a pretty solid first run for Chip Kelly.

2014-01-05 09:49:42 AM
Given that the Eagles were 4-12 last year and were still poisoned by Any Reid's "its my system or the highway" mentality, I think Chip did an awesome job installing a new offense and defense and renewing the teams culture.  If i recall, aren't the the youngest team in the league?

I think they will improve again next year and might be a legitimate contender then (their success this year was mostly due to just how bad the NFC East is)

I was never a Andy Reid fan...the man will never win the big one.  I'm still chuckling at just how bad KC's defense has taken a dive during the season (they were one of the best last year).

Oh well, I actually have something to look forward to next year!  Its a refreshing change.

RickyWilliams'sBong: I'd call that a pretty solid first run for Chip Kelly.

So does the majority of the Philly faithful.  You'll hear a vocal minority whine about this season, but the simple fact is that none of us expected to win the NFC East, let alone finish with a winning record.

/and Kelly did this with Reid's team that went 4-12 last year

gotta love his clock management skills at the 2 min warning of the 4th quarter.

Yeah, see, I don't get the criticism here.  It was off the two-minute warning.  They only have one timeout.  It's fourth down.  If they don't get it, then the Colts get the ball, kneel down, the Chiefs call a time-out, and then the Colts win.  If they burn the time-out, the Chiefs fail to convert, the Colts kneel down, and the Colts win.

So, I didn't see why calling a timeout there was bad.  The Colts' D may have given the team a look that negated the play they were going to call.  But, either way, the timeout didn't, and wouldn't have, mattered.

I said to my son at the beginning of the season I'd be happy with 6-10 and Vick gone for either Foles or Barkley.  Yeah, it would have been nice to see that score reversed, but seriously, any Eagles fan complaining about this season is on crack

-Last to first in the NFC East, got a home playoff game
-Foles looks not only serviceable but actually good
-McCoy is possibly the best back in the NFL when you actually give him the ball
-The O line has really stepped up (and avoided injuries), the D-line looks promising
-The team seems to respect Kelly
-They knocked Dallas out of the playoffs

This team has a lot of young talent and the holes that it has (primarily in the secondary) are patchable in the offseason.  The NFC East looks winnable for the next few years- Dallas has problems beyond Romo, the Giants need serious help and Manning the Lesser to fix his game, and the Racial Slurs are a dumpster fire.

If they had kept the timeout and not converted on 4th down, the Colts would have had to get a first down to run out the clock.  If the Chiefs defense held, they would have time for another desperation drive for a FG.  So calling that timeout was huge, and stupid.  Vintage Andy Reid.

Meh, there's stupid Andy Reid calls and then there's this one.  So, let's say that Reid doesn't use the time out, but the Chiefs still fail to convert.  The Colts HAVE to get a first down to run out the clock, but the Chiefs defense has been horrible since the half.  So, the Colts run a play, get stuffed, second down.  Chiefs call time out.  Probably 1:40 left.  Colts run another play.  1:00 left  Third down.  Colts bleed the clock for the punt.  :20 seconds to kickoff, another 5 or 6, and then the Chiefs have the ball somewhere deep in their own territory with maybe :13 seconds left (VERY generous) and no timeouts.

This, of course, completely assumes that the Chiefs could have stopped the Colts at any point in time, which was very unlikely.  So, a TO at the Colts' 46 wasn't as Earth-shattering as people would think.  Reid saw the matchups and decided to go with the TO to see if he could get any further.

It was definitely Reid admitting that his defense had shiat the bed.

While Vick has been (relatively) cool with being demoted this year, he's also now telling the press that he's not interested in coming back as a backup. And there are enough teams out there with desperate quarterback situations that he can probably find one willing to roll the dice and play him as a starter. So, next year some other fanbase can chew their fingernails hoping Vick stays intact for enough of the season.

If Vick leaves, I hope the Eagles can get a veteran QB cheap to take over clipboard-holding duties. Barkley looked very much not ready for prime time when he came on the field this season.

Since Vick is going to be a free agent, I see little chance that the Eagles are going to re-sign him to be an expensive backup.  As far as Barkley, he came in green and was the third string QB who saw very little snaps with the first team.  I'll give him a pass on his few appearances in prime-time this year.
