I will just say here that when I was a kid my mom had a student with a scarred nose. His nose was scarred because it had been bitten off by someone else's pet raccoon when he was a baby (his mom had stopped to chat with the neighbor while pushing his stroller; the raccoon jumped up on the stroller and bit off his nose), so this was a temporary replacement--he had to go in every few years for a larger nose. Raccoons are wild animals, not pets. Never forget that.

Along the same lines, I asked my brother, who grew up and lived in Stamford, CT until recently, whether he knew the woman who owned the chimpanzee that bit off a neighbor's face (he knows everybody). "Oh sure," he said. "I used to smoke a joint with that chimp all the time."

Clearly, Tennessee is under Caesar's law.

Oh, cool, we're just thinking of crazy names for political parties now?

Imma start the Get Off My Lawn Party and pepper my speeches with lines from movies and defunct television series from the 90s. Could I *be* more edgy?

/But I couldn't do it all on my own.

I watched a local county commission public hearing on cable recently, and was both astounded and amused by the levels of lunacy that emerged.  Talk about your reality shows...

Giving away animated .gif's of glittering Eagles will get you a solid base.

Welcome to Tennessee where we really have three parties.

Conservative Democrats

"Moderate" Republicans

AND

img.fark.net

The occasionally beloved by rednecks "I Hate everyone" Party (but specially MexEcans, Muzlems, and Ate-heists)

/I wish the Democrats would give a crap about my state again and stop letting the Tehadists run roughshod over us

Satanic_Hamster: Favorite party from New Jersey; The All Day Breakfast Party

The other day I went to a restaurant that advertised breakfast anytime, so I ordered eggs benedict during the French Revolution.

I'll bet that snake handler preacher from Snake Salvation would support it

My cousin's wife is a wildlife rehabilitator .  Anyhow as a result my cousin has had all sorts of wild animals for pets.  Included in that, they for a while had 2 racoons.  They fed them them the feed that zoos feed bears.  So these things where FAT.  Other than that, racoons as pets are petty much like cats.  Only smarter(smartest non-primate IIRC).  And larger.

I still cannot say they would be for everyone.  Clearly she knew what she was doing.  They have not been domesticated for countless generations the way cats and dogs have been.  Still they can make pretty good pets... to the right owner.

That reminds me that I miss the Macaw he used to own.  I was in the living room and the macaw was in the kitchen when it began screaming "SHUT UP BIRD!  SHUT UP BIRD!"  I have always been a bird owner myself and so this was hilarious to me - and I have had a parrot that meowed before (the parrot did not like cats and seeming wanted to lure them into his attack range).

He looks exactly what I imagined a raccoon owner to look like.
