Maybe it's because doctors don't want to be accused of enticing a minor?

As far as I'm concerned, it is as it should be. I just don't think doctors and teens should be hooking up.

That's why most doctor's offices have a sign saying you can ask to have a nurse/staff member present during the exam. Not a perfect witness as they work for the doctor, but better than nothing. Also, maybe having someone watch is your kink.

Duke doesn't suck nearly as much as the liberals that tried to frame the lacrosse team for rape.

Was a scumbag parents meme on reddit. Seems the parents and the doctor(in violation of ethics) never told the kid, but he should of been raised as a she. Parents wanted a boy. Hermaphrodite type stuff when born.

So his first sex with a girl was limp and he went(without telling parents) to an erectile dysfunction doctor who revealed why his little penis(hey porn actors are hung) was limp and now the he is getting the fark out of the parents control and may become a she.

Because teens wouldn't consider that situation creepy at all.

2014-01-04 12:58:07 PM
Part of the reason is children (including teenagers) are more or less the property of their parents. Doctors seem hesitant about talking to teenagers about sex with their parents still in the room, or even waiting outside. Parents who want to control every aspect of their teenager might get outraged at the doctor talking to their special snowflake about things they don't want them to. Even if it is a normal biological function, and something that should be discussed in confidence between the teen and doctor.

Not to mention that around here no matter what age the teenager is, the doctor always seems to talk to their parent rather than them. Which only further isolates the teen from being a 'young adult' and simply is another facet of being the property of their parents.

judging by the pure volume of the rage at the team during that farked up episode, I don't think it was just liberals.  A whole bunch of people jumped to conclusions.  I think it was more an anti frat boy/jock rage that was on display.

DarkSoulNoHope: Pedodoctor is helping you masturbate?

My point is an adult doctor talking to an underage patient about sex is a lawsuit and malpractice liability, which is why these conversations are "lacking." I used an image with pedobear in a doctor's outfit to convey this idea, because all it takes is one single accusation of impropriety to ruin a practice. The accusation would run along the lines of "Doctor Smith tried to talk to my precious 14 year old virgin snowflake about sex, he is clearly a pedophile," and then all it takes is one irresponsible media outlet to report on this story in the form of a question, and then a man's life would be ruined.

So, it's easier for a doctor to simply not have these conversations.

Easier still if parents stop farming out their responsibilities.

Nuclear Monk: Teacher's Union

Dammit, it's too early for me to start a drinking game.

On a serious note, this is a good thing - especially if you're dealing with things like the creepy obsession some folks have with virginity or any number of backward lines of thinking that parents use to interfere with a child's health.

There is no way, none, that if i was a doctor, i would be left alone in a room with a teenage girl. There would ALWAYS have to be a nurse or assistant there. She having a bad day? She could accuse you of anything. It's happened.

This! I'm a nurse in a doctors office. When the 17 year old patient can't speak because mom answers every farking question I ask THE PATIENT, you really think mommy will leave the room for some quality doctor-patient time? Hell no!!

I would like to have conversations about sex with some teens, if ya know what I mean.

2014-01-04 01:40:13 PM
Lol, when I was a teen a nurse or something during a checkup tried to "talk to me about sex".  She said "it's important that you WAIT."  I snapped back "Wait for what?"  I felt like she was talking to me as if I were a kindergartener.  Then she didn't say anything more about it after that.

I'm really cynical about the idea of having a doctor and teen who barely know each other having a real discussion.  The doctor undoubtedly meets the most idiotic teens who keep getting STDs and getting pregnant over and over again.  Then when the doctor talks to a teen who isn't an idiot they will probably end up sounding very condescending.

Plenty of doctors would use that confidential time to push whatever ignorant ideas they happen to have and be anti-sex, prudish, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, etc.

It's so sad that here in the information age teenagers have so much trouble getting educated about sex.  There are so many great books and websites out there, but people have so much difficulty separating the "signal" from the noise.

Anatomy, for one thing.  The ability to know the difference between the hoo-ha and the poopy hole is critical.

At my first visit, when I was about 14, my gynocologist made a really valiant effort to do this.  As an adult, I appreciate the time he took not only to ask careful questions about my experiences and feelings, but also to have a frank, gentle discussion about sex and it's responsibilities and potential repercussions with me afterward in his office.  He made it clear that I could call him with any concerns and that he would happily advise me on starting birth control when I was ready.  As an adult, I realize he was a great doctor.

At the time I thought "eww, this man who's also my mom's and my grandma's doctor just put metal things in my vagina and now he's trying to talk to me about sex.  Run away!"

2014-01-04 02:04:18 PM
One-on-one confidential time during annual visits is recommended to allow for these sensitive conversations.

I'm a 45-year-old doctor and I'm going to have a private little sex talk with 13-year-old? Uh huh.

We had a patient call the ambulance one time, a teenage girl with abnormal vaginal bleeding (stay with me) and tremendous abdominal pain. Mom wanted to ride with her 17 year old, and insisted on riding in the back. We didn't like it, but we asked the usual questions anyway. When was the last menstrual cycle, is there any chance she was pregnant...

Mom got extremely upset at these questions, saying that her daughter was a virgin and a good god-fearing girl and how dare we call her a slut... The girl just meekly agreed with mom.

We finally got to the hospital, and while we were giving turn over another nurse was asking the same questions, and mom was reacting the same way.

The nurse finally had enough, and he said "Ma'am, with all due respect, I have met more pregnant virgins than I can count, and this is important info that could save her life. So why not let her answer the question herself, truthfully, and save the judgements for later?"

She was pissed, but the girl answered. Turned out she had an atopic pregnancy.

I hated helicopter parents, especially the "good-fearing" ones.

The birth control is available and people know about it but the intent is to have kids and qualify for the "entitlements". True most states have a family cap. The "cap" being as many as 5 kids in some places. But even with one kid you get more than with no kids. So government does indeed still provide an incentive and or subsidy for people to have kids they don't have to pay for.

That is only part of it. Look at all the "recommended" exams you are supposed to have, particularly as you get older.  You don't think the reason a Federal task force recommended  a change to start  breast cancer screening at an older age was based on science rather than costs do you?

Just a few of the recommended  stuff yo have done every one to five years

men - age 40 +
 Blood pressure screening:
Cholesterol screening and heart disease prevention:
Colon cancer screening: People between ages 50 and 75
Osteoporosis screening:
Prostate cancer screening

women - age 40 +
 Blood pressure screening:
Cholesterol screening:
Cholesterol screening:
Colon cancer screening: People between the ages of 50 and 75
Physical exam: Have a physical exam every 1-5 years
Breast exams:
Mammograms:
Osteoporosis screening
Pelvic exam and Pap smear:

Add in stuff lieke screeningd for skin cancer, dementia and Alzheimer's disease, depression, lipid disorders , annual electrocadiogram (when you really get old), Vision and hearing examinations etc.
