I guess you can never learn too many times that prohibition doesn't work.

skinink: Another reason is that toward the end of the time I smoked I refused to give a smoke to anyone who asked because I had people trying to bum one from me all the time.

This is the worst part about smoking, aside from constantly feeling like there's wet tissue paper in your lungs and being short of breath and the chest pains.  But this is almost as bad.  You go out to a bar, and some person (or usually a person for each time you go out to smoke) comes up and asks for a cigarette and all I can wonder is, "You obviously drink at bars all of the time, how have you still not learned to plan ahead?"  These people seem to always have "just ran out of cigarettes".  Strangely, I'm always on my last cigarette it seems.

Mugato: foo monkey: Then they'll jack up the price on ecigs because bad bad bad.

The "they" that are the tobacco companies aren't the same "they" that are the e-cigarette companies.

Yes it's tomato farmers that are supplying the nicotine.

Big Tobacco is quite separate from the nicotine industry. Otherwise Big Tobacco wouldn't trying to buy out the e-cig industry.

tillerman35: I vaguely remember there being something about the US government not being allowed to use taxation to specifically put someone out of business.  This comes from a "Law 101" course that I took in college 30 years ago, so don't quote me on it.  One of the Fark Lawyers can probably add some detail...

I see the obvious legal argument, but I don't think the US actually follows it. If I remember correctly, marijuana was not originally made illegal per se, instead the government just required licenses for people to sell it, and then they proceeded to issue 0 licenses. I think this ended up in court and I don't know the legal loopholes used after that attempt.

rikkards: When they cut cigarette prices in Ontario it did cut the smuggling down and has since been ramped up to over what it was before.

I get mine off the reservation... Cheapest is $10/carton..but they have like some twigs and shiat in them.. I got for the $12/carton ones... I cannot tell the difference, AND they are made with locally grown tobacco.. I have to drive 40 mins, get 10 cartons for $120...Some times the OPP tries to crack down...stopping vehicles coming out of the reservation for any traffic infraction they can come up with..SO I always go with a store bought back sitting on my dash, and the 'illegal' ones covered up in the back seat where they cannot be seen.

No cigarette is good for you..they kill...at least THESE ones don't have over 100 other chemicals added on top of the damn thing that's supposed to kill me!

Ghastly: Or they'll just do what they do here in Ontario. Head to the nearest Reservation and buy them (illegally) from the Natives tax free.

Yup! as my last post said...sorry, late to the thread.. I had to drive to Middleport today!
