Evelyn's mother, Aida Hernandez, believes the child ate part of a cookie she found on the ground in the grass outside of their apartment.

Oooh! Free ground cookie!

Expect to see more stories like this coming out of CO.

Not because it's going to happen on a larger scale than ever before, but because people with an agenda against legal pot are going to generate TONS of hits for stories like this.

Won't anyone think of the children?

The only thing that can save a child from a bad cookie on the ground is a good cookie on the ground.

There were a ton of them when the medical dispensaries opened up (our top story tonight: your high school students may see the pot leaf sign on his way home from school. Point! Sputter!)

It will only get worse.

File this under : parent who didn't supervise their child and is blaming others

Not watching your 2 year old long enough they can eat random things off the ground?  Yeah, that's not the hippie-cookie-droppers fault as much as mommy's fault.

Hernandez said she took it away from her but about a half hour later noticed something was wrong. Police did not find the cookie that Evelyn apparently ate.

Mom probably ate the rest of it once she figured out what it was.

I always heard that excessive pot usage can cause paranoia.

Sure "they found the cookie on the ground". Right. (Did they test the parents?)

Let the police search your home and submit to a blood test because your kid was acting sick and you took them to the ER? Eff that.

I remember baking two batches of brownies every time I made them as a kid - one batch that was safe for me to eat and one
batch 'for the adults'. My folks were up front with me about why I couldn't eat any from that batch, though.

Yes, according to the article they also searched the parent's house.

I'd say this is 75%+ likely to be a setup. Mom don't like legal weed, kid just "happens" to find a cookie on the ground.

That said, ultimately, no harm done. I drank a bottle of ink once as a kid. Kids do stupid things. Hell, ADULTS do stupid things.

Not just died, but died-died. It was horrible.

So the child was groggy for a bit and then felt better? How is that different from a normal day for a 2-year-old?

I drank a chemistry experiment in class once. I forget the exact nature of the experiment, but I do remember that if we did it
correctly, we ended up with plain old salt water. We must have done it mostly correct, because other than a mild burning for
about an hour after, I was fine. Teacher flipped her shiat though. My lab partners threw me under the bus. All through the
experiment, they were like , "C'mon...drink it...DRINK IT! I dare ya!" and then when the teacher got mad, they did a 180 and
were all like, "She did it man, it was HER idea!". I got an F on that particular lab assignment.

I hope the state homes in CO have plenty of space to accommodate the inevitable influx of seized kids 'poisoned' by parents who do test positive for THC.

Its worse than that.  The child is now questioning authority and wants to become an art major.

Jesus Christ, just put on some Pink Floyd and hand the kid some Doritos.  I took a chug off a beer somebody left on the porch when I was 2 and nobody called the farking FBI over it.

Lunchlady: Because no kid has ever sneaked a sip from the liquor cabinet.

My sister was caught getting plastered on beers at 2 years old.  I remember sneaking sips from my dad's beers at age 4-7.  By 8, though, he'd give them to me when I asked.

I was also sneaking sips of the root beer flavored cough syrup around the same age, though.

Those who've seen me post before would likely suggest that "it shows."

/funnily enough, we're both college graduates.
//unlike my college dropout brothers, who've never expressed an interest in alcohol OR purloined cough syrup.

Mom staged by baking a Scooby snack b/c she doesn't like the legalization of pot...what kid doesn't want a cookie.

Then mom finds a well-behaved, quiet 2 year old.

Mom is now a registered Dem.

Laat thanksgiving I made a batch of brownies with budder. After they were baked, the dog was staggering around and acting funny. The wife was very worried so we took the dog to the emergency vet. $300 later we found out she got stoned from a spot of budder I apparently dropped on the floor. We took her home, put her in a dark room. When we got back a few hours later, she was perfectly fine.

While I understand the need to take your kid to the hospital because you don't know whats wrong, reporting it to the media is just completely asinine.

It was very likely the neutralization reaction of equimolar amounts of sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid which will produce just salt and water.  You probably added a bit too much HCl but yeah basically harmless...it's in your stomach anyhow.

my wife's dipshiat of an aunt smokes cannabis in her bedroom with her kids playing right next to her.  There's no way her kids wouldn't test positive for traces of THC.  I'm not getting involved because at some point CPS is going to be at her door when her kids start talking at school.

I'm all in favor of legalization, but I hope the hoopla dies down. As much as I can't stand rigid enforcement, I equally dislike extreme weedists and weed culture. And everyone is going to go crazy for a week before it dies down.

This. When I had two year olds, I watched them like a farking hawk. Kids that age will try to stuff anything they can wrap their little fingers around in their mouths. The short list I've seen two year olds try to eat: wood chips (at the playground), dog poop, dirt, pen caps, loose change, rabbit poop, fuzz (from stuffed animals), pet food, bits of dirty food / candy, ice cream (after it's fallen into the sand), toys, and wrappers.

You're not watching a kid under 3 like a hawk? You'll be lucky if the kid lives to enter school. Not to mention they have a tendency to chase random things.

This is just one of the many negatives associated with legalizing a dangerous drug.  Maybe the residents of CO will learn from this.  Unlikely though, since many of them will lose large portions of their brain cells in the coming months.  Unfortunately, it is more likely that they will be legalizing crack or meth next.

Equimolar amounts of Sodium Hydroxide and Hydrochloric acid will produce sodium chloride and water.  But you really need to test the resulting solution for pH before you should even *consider* putting it in your mouth.   Unless you know
exactly what you're doing, and know exactly what the reaction should produce, you just don't *taste* chemistry experiments.  Unless it's one of those modern "think of the children" chemistry sets where the most reactive chemicals in the set are baking soda and vinegar.

What a load of crap. I haven't smoked pot in like 30 years and can't quite stand most all of the people in my life that do, but this is a case of OMG THINK OF THE CHILDRAN!!!!
"It's everywhere now that it's legal they have it everywhere," said Hernandez.
Fark you with a long cold crack pipe Ms Dez. Like I said, I have no dog in the "Legalize pot" fight except my beer. I would rather that not become "illegal" if a child eats a beer cookie.  When will people learn that the government doesn't want you to get intoxicated without their cut. The only reason why alcohol is legal is because you can't grow it in your back yard and they get their cut. They get there cut, and then some. They HATE POT because it comes right out of the ground and they can't control it. Anything you need to construct with chemicals or process with equipment they outlaw because they can't control the commerce. So fark you Ms. Hernandez. Watch you're crotch fruit. What the hell is a 2 year old eating cookies she found on the ground for anyways? Don't you feed her or keep her of the ground? How do you know she's not eating dog shiat? Do you let your 2 year old roll around on the pavement as well and then biatch about broken bottles?
