I'd watch Death Race 2000 and Mommie Dearest over Braveheart and True Grit eight days a week.

I saw Death Race 2000 a couple of years ago on Netflix, or so I thought. Great that they're bringing it back though, it's a great film.

And I'm very excited to be able to show my film buff SO Mommie Dearest, so now he'll FINALLY get what "no more wire hangers" means.

I guess I'm in a smaller section of internet users who doesn't mind when Netflix loses and adds titles.  There's still more there than I can ever watch in this lifetime.  I've had stuff queued up for years that I still haven't gotten to.  In that current list, there's still probably a dozen titles that I'd like to see and probably won't get to half of them.

The Mommie Dearest - Hollywood Royalty Special Edition includes an insightful and amusing commentary track by John Waters, who is a huge fan of the movie.

Uh, yes you can watch those movies on Netflix. You can add them to your queue here:

Oh, you mean you can't watch them online. So sorry, my precious snowflakes, that you'll have to pay a little more and wait a little longer to watch what you want. It's just so awful that you can't watch what you want when you want it, isn't it? You're such victims, aren't you? Shall I report this to Amnesty International, or have you already contacted them?

How bout they throw up some oldies like Fortress or Fortress II, No Escape, Tour of Duty, or new duds some might like to see but have no interest in buying like after erf, Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift ...anyways...

If you're someone who really cares about watching major studio "new releases" with $100 million dollar budgets and big name stars, haven't you already seen True Grit and Braveheart?  Likely multiple times?    I don't subscribe to Netflix to watch that kind of content.   In the rare case I  want to watch Teenage Vampire Romance Robot Reluctant Super Hero #3, I'll pay $1 for it at the Redbox.

The 1969 John Wayne one.  I like both, personally, even if it gave Jeff Bridges the idea to do RIPD.

And they added Big Trouble in Little China.  That's enough for me to want Netflix.

\might have watched it about a hundred times in my teens

No, such people probably never saw such movies, because they came out more than 20 years ago, so they might as well not exist. 0

I do love that the news can cherrypick both lists to basically make the Netflix is dying or Netflix soars argument.

Netflix dropped Breaking 2, gained Spaceballs->1 million points improvement
They didn't add Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money however

Lately, I've been switching over to Amazon instead of Netflix.  Amazon seems to be doing a much better job of predicting what movies I would like, and if it's a movie that's not free on Prime, you still have the option of watching it if you're willing to pay a few bucks.  You're really getting the best of both iTunes and Netflix, through Amazon.  Plus, free shipping.

I'm still hanging on to Netflix, but they seriously need to update their business model using some kind of a tiered service - here's the tier 1 movies that you get through our regular $8/month service, here's the premium-selection tier 2 movies you get for an additional $5/month, and here's the top tier 3 just-released movies you get on a pay-per-viewing basis at $4 a pop.  How hard is that?

i'm trapped in this world.  netflix was great a few years ago.  now, amazon prime seems to be better (and the fact I can rent a movie is a big plus).

but, i still haven't dropped netflix.  but, it doesn't really have much i can't get from amazon prime, and i don't want to drop amazon prime.  oh well, i'll wait till house of cards comes out, watch that, and then decide what to do with netflix.

Meh. We apparently can't get TV, Movies, or Music through Amazon Prime here in Canada as far as I can tell, even using a VPN. With Netflix I can switch my location between Canada and the US and access both content sets. I don't pay for cable, so I would happily pay for both Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Well, that's an interesting website, but Plex doesn't seem to like very many of the links that they offer. Any suggestions?

Here's what I did:

Crank up a 2003 server as a VM, load up Plex server on it, installed the Let Me Watch This plugin. Ignore everything else plex offers.

Headed downstairs, fired up the Roku, opened the Plex channel, it found my Plex server, launched that, chose the Let Me Watch This channel.

Went to TV Shows and Search from there. Found Archer and Game of Thrones, set both as Favorites.
Went to Movies, searched for Elysium, watched it, watched Man of Steel again, watched The Wolverine.

What the LMWT plugin does is hit all those illegal seeds out there that you see when searching around that load you up with spyware and other garbage and bypasses all that garbage so you hit the seed directly.

It can be hit or miss. Image quality certainly isn't bluray quality but it's certainly good enough for free.

I used to work with a guy who talk about being a big film buff... then we would talk about films. He'd never seen Casablanca. Alright, I could accept that. He'd never seen Gone With the Wind. Call it a foul tip. Had never seen Jaws... strike across the plate. Had never seen Caddyshack... strike two! The self proclaimed movie buff and horror fan had never seen An American Werewolf in London... strike three, out, game over! Others that he said he hadn't seen: The Shining, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, any of the first three Dirty Harry movies, none of the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns, Once Upon A Time in the West, Fail-Safe, Heavy Metal, Reservoir Dogs, Se7en, etc., etc., etc...

I hid his body in an unused 70mm projector.
And paid for his first year of NetFlix.
