Football coaches should not held at the same level as God at an educational institution. It just shows how ass backwards that place is. Paterno is dead, people. He's not getting resurrected.

O'Brien might not be successful in Houston, but at least he'll have peace of mind.

/I'm proud of myself for getting resurrected spelled right on the 1st try.

I'm not so sure O'Brien would have stayed much longer even if the "Paterno people" left him the fark alone. Taking a job where sanctions of some kind were imminent and presumably the kind of situation where simply "being competitive" would look amazing just smelled like he viewed the gig as a stepping stone.

sure, one reason i think people were surprised by the move in the first place - guy was coaching a prolific patriots offense in the super bowl and likely could've gone anywhere better but chose PSU - maybe it was the challenge and the exposure? but from day 0 it was hard to believe anybody going to PSU long-term after the Paterno thing

I dunno, I've never seen any water boy who wasn't played by Adam Sandler get even 1/100th as many gratuitous thanks for player performance as God does. So I reckon God ranks at least as high as whoever hands out the PEDs.

It was definitely a mutually-beneficial circumstance for both parties.  Penn State was going to have a hell of a time finding a coach to create a disconnect from the Paterno era, O'Brien was looking for an opportunity to establish himself.  That's why (IMO) they so drastically reduced his buyout after his 2nd season, now they can bring back someone who once worshiped at the altar of Joe Paterno to satisfy the maniacal sycophants of Happy Valley.

And I have to laugh that people were that bent out of shape over Ron farking Vanderlinden.  That guy couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag.

Yes.  O'Brien is probably thanking his lucky stars that he didn't get capped in the back of the head in an industrial park after that...

And I'm calling B.S. on the Penn State higher-ups not having a clue he was going to be the hot NFL prospect.  It was going to happen before his initial contract was up, and they're lucky it didn't happen last year.

I figured he would eventually.  I mean, the man wears a tie on the field.  Of course he's going to Penn State.

Oh come on.

You know what else turns boys into men? Growing the fark up.

The only reason these "boys" are so goddamn incapable of taking care of themselves is because their whole life has been filled with people falling over themselves to tell them how great they are.

Why are college football players held to such low standards that some geriatric putz is the only one who can get through?
