The_Sponge: "Who is that?" she said.

Haha. Ouch.

oh_please: Treygreen13: Well, note that Tim Tebow is twice as favorable as Eli Manning and Cam Newton in the poll.

The turd my dog dropped in the backyard this morning is twice as favorable as Sheli.

I think he was one of the most popular guys on the planet after the Giants beat the Pats the first time.

2014-01-03 12:00:07 PM

Treygreen13: oh_please: Now, magically,  according to MyFace, all of a sudden they're diehard Bronco fans, and talk shiat all the time.

Oh man, I hate that.

We had a nice little fake-fan outing yesterday when a "Manziel signs with the Cowboys" rumor swept through DFW. All the "hardcore football fans" reacted to the obviously false (if you have any idea how the draft works) news with the usual insightful analysis that we get after every Cowboys win or loss.

You never know, the Vikings could have traded the leagues' entire draft to Dallas.

2014-01-03 12:02:20 PM

DeathByGeekSquad: The majority of Americans are vapid pop-culture whores, of COURSE the Broncos would be America's team, the media has been fellating Peyton all season.

Might be due to all of the records their offense set this year.  It was pretty impressive to watch.

2014-01-03 12:04:38 PM

kronicfeld: 23 percent of respondents said that the Cowboys were their least favorite team in the NFL

Dallas was listed as America's second favorite team, with 12 percent of respondents calling themselves Cowboys fans.

THANK YOU. I read that and titled my head like a dog hearing a strange noise. I'm glad I wasn't the only one.

2014-01-03 12:06:21 PM

A Cave Geek: Wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that they're from...ya know...TEXAS would it?

The_Sponge: I don't think there is too much hate for the Texans despite being from the same state.

No, just ridicule.  "Texans" is hilarious.  It'd be like a team from L.A. changing their mascot to "Californians".  It's hubris that shatters every common-sense limit on hyperbole and into great unknown territories of misuse of language.

As for Dallas, there's something to be said about "America's Team" being from a state where I got to constantly hear people (erroneously) brag about how Texas can leave the Union whenever they want.

2014-01-03 12:08:30 PM
Oh you think you Cowboys fans have it rough, try being a Bucs fan!

2014-01-03 12:09:35 PM
While I understand Bronco love (truly the coolest team ever with a metric that is not subjective in any way, shape or form) I gotta agree it's 99% bandwagon.

I remember a lot of Terrell Davis jerseys floating around the country in the late nineties but not seeing as much orange and blue in the 2000s.

/Go Broncos!

UNC_Samurai: You never know, the Vikings could have traded the leagues' entire draft to Dallas.

Oh man, that story is a classic.

The real fleecing wasn't even on the surface. Jimmy and Jerry screwed them badly enough without the conditional picks - two first rounders and two second rounders in ADDITION to the absurd stakes when they cut Solomon, Stewart, Howard, and Nelson.

2014-01-03 12:11:50 PM
I wonder if there's a single person in the entire DFW area who finds it surprising that the Cowboys are both the most hated and the most loved team in the NFL?

This is the same news we've been hearing every couple of months for the past twenty years.

HEY NOW. Darrin Nelson refused to report.

Totally different.

Fantasy football has made me a fan of practically every team. This year, leviathan bell helped my team win a championship. It's probably the first time I've ever cheered for the steelers.

Ah right, how dare a team name themselves after their area of residence. They should all call themselves airplanes, or birds. Those make more sense. Or maybe name your entire team after one guy who has been dead for 20 years, that's the American way!

That was the biggest fleecing in the history of the NFL.

My roommate in college would wear his Cowboy gear with pride, even the season they won only 1 game...when the trade happened, he was actually worried that the Cowboys had traded away their best player.

AND he ended up playing for the Cowboys later anyway. No coincidence Lynn was essentially removed from the team after they realized just how much he hosed the team.

What is "Tim Tebow" doing in the answer to a question that has the words "NFL Quarterback" in it? Why not Tom Selleck?

2014-01-03 12:21:50 PM
So they are the 2nd most liked team and the most hated team.  All that means is that Jerry Jones is one hell of a good marketer.

2014-01-03 12:22:23 PM

Treygreen13: The_Sponge: How the hell can 9% of the respondents have an unfavorable opinion of Russell Wilson?  (Were they all Niners fans?)  You can hate the Hawks, you can hate Pete Carroll, you can hate Richard Sherman.....but hating Russell Wilson?

C'MON MAN!

Well, note that Tim Tebow is twice as favorable as Eli Manning and Cam Newton in the poll.

Sounds like bronys were the only ones they could get to answer their poll

I was more implying that Irvin and Aikman were better players than Walker already on the roster.

You know Irvin was more valuable when a rival owner tells you not to trade him and get rid of someone else instead.

Reading the actual breakdown of the questions is pretty interesting. http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2013/PPP_Release_National_102. p df

Favorable rating (greater is better)
Mr. Bunchen 38%
Breesus 50%
RG Knee 34%
Best Manningface lesser Manning 53%
Fivehead 62%
Cam Cam 30%
Discount Double Rodgers 42%
Not an NFL quarterback 52%
Russel your jimmies 30%

Ok, then why not Terry Bradshaw? Or Steve Young? Or Troy Aikman? Or any other "not currently in the NFL" former QB to have thrown a TD in the playoffs? Why Tebow? Why can't the country just move on?

He's not really going to kill himself and make a fear engine to sing the song that ends the earth.

You're all just jealous of the incredible success that the Cowboys have endured over the last 20 years.  It truly has been a joy to watch our beloved Cowboys destroy the NFL for so many years.

You're just jealous that you have to live in a crime-ridden rathole like New York City and cannot reach the level of sophistication required to live in suburban Dallas.

Rapmaster2000: You're just jealous that you have to live in a crime-ridden rathole like New York City

Bill Swerski: 74 to 2! I mean, after all, our civic pride is on the line. Because, let's face it, if New York were to somehow beat Chicago, we'd never hear the end of it.

Todd O'Conner: Aw, they would love it over there!

Bill Swerski: You know, it's absurd, really, that we would even have to waste our time comparing ourselves to that crime-ridden rathole!

2014-01-03 12:54:39 PM
the reason the Cowboys are the least favorite team is because all the teams who have all the real bandwagon fans (Steelers, Patriots, Packers, Saints etc.) rationale themselves that they aren't really bandwagon fans because the Dallas Cowboys have all the bandwagon fans, even though they have absolutely no reason to have any bandwagon fans.
so basically it's bandwagonners projecting their own bandwagoning onto the Cowboys.

2014-01-03 12:59:27 PM
I actually don't really hate any of them - the players are all professionals, and it seems ridiculous to hate a team, when the majority of its players could be somewhere else next week.

Fanbases?  That's a different story.  Pittsburgh, and no one else comes close.  I have dreams that feature all those entitled bastards hanging themselves with their yellow snot-rags.  On cold nights like these, it keeps me warm.

The Cowboys and the Redskins both have the same problem. Intensely hateable owners whose treatment of the team as their personal playthings has lowered the overall level of competition and fun in the NFL
