Clearly, Jerry needs to sign Romo to a lifetime contract.  The fans will come pouring in, just you wait.

It takes a lot of nerve to declare yourself "America's Team".  Especially when you're from Texas.

You know - I used to think the soul-crushing interception on the final drive to win the game was a Tony Romo thing. Now it turns out it's bigger than that - it's a Dallas Cowboys thing.

23 percent of respondents said that the Cowboys were their least favorite team in the NFL

Dallas was listed as America's second favorite team, with 12 percent of respondents calling themselves Cowboys fans.

They're still the most recognizable team, and with the league marketing internationally more and more that's important. I have family in Ireland and London and when they ask me about the NFL they always mention Dallas.I try to set them straight, but I don't know if it sinks in.

Part of the blame has to go to the insane over-hype that ESPN and other networks give to this team.
sick of hearing about the cowboys.

I'm a Hawks fan and I hate hearing all the hype of the team this year.  I'd rather they be a sleeping giant.....

Fun facts that wreck the survey's validity:

22% of the respondents were over 65 years old.
13% of the US population is over 65 years old.

They're certainly my least favorite team, being a fan of a division rival.

Especially considering two years ago, they were the favorite of 3.8% of the fans. Of course, that'll drop if the Broncos lose and can't wait to see the cars in the area with the brand new sticker of whoever wins the Super Bowl this year.

I like the Cowboys. They try real hard, but always come up short. They're like a football Ralph Kramden.

I think it's more to do with the fact that they're not winning. My guess is the Donkeys or San Fran are the most liked team at the moment, because the majority of people are bandwagon morans that like who the media hypes the most.

If that's the case, then you would suspect that many of the respondents were religious, which is something that should have been in favor of Wilson.  Weird.

Ditto, but the media loves a "story," and I think the Panthers are getting more attention now.  I had the misfortune of watching them play at home against the Saints and then against the Falcons.  Their defense was pretty okay, with Brees and Ryan picking them apart for long stretches, but Newton was pretty awful against them.  In each of the games, the announcers were bending over for Newton the entire time.  It was amazing.

Here's Newton's passing from those games:

28/49, 330, 3 TDs, 1 INT

Basically, he had in two games, the same stats that many QBs have in one.

So, yeah, he ran around a lot, but the damage wasn't too heavy against the opposing team.  But the announcers ... damn, Newton this, Newton that.

I thought the sample size was a bit small for such a survey.  Given only a limited pool of teams, this survey hardly seems valid at all.

It wasn't the Cowboys that labeled themselves; it was NFL Films, and the league ran with it. I'm not saying the team doesn't like the free marketing, but this has always been a league-driven label.

Exactly.  I hate the Cowboys (Steelers fan) but it's hard to deny that they are consistently one of the most popular teams in the NFL, regardless of how they are doing.  That is, in turn, going to make them one of the most hated teams, especially with them being in a division with other popular teams in fairly large markets.

I doubt that a poll that only consists of 721 people can accurately represent the feelings of a country of 313 million.

Yeah, no kidding...I'm a Charger fan, all of the Mrs. family on her mother's side are from Colorado, and in the 10 of the 13 years we've been married, nobody talked football because "meh, we're really not into it"... Now, magically,  according to MyFace, all of a sudden they're diehard Bronco fans, and talk shiat all the time.

Dallas is America's Team. You just have to deal with that fact. That is why they have the star on their helmet. The Patriots, America's Psuedo Team, put a small star in their logo when they redesigned it as an homage to Dallas.

CSB:

A coworker of mine is originally from Kansas, and a couple of months ago, she claimed to be a huge Chiefs fan.

I had my doubts about her knowledge of the team, so I tested her.

While talking about football, I made a comment that I kind of look like Andy Reid.  (I had a mustache for Movember.)

"Who is that?" she said.

Oh man, I hate that.

We had a nice little fake-fan outing yesterday when a "Manziel signs with the Cowboys" rumor swept through DFW. All the "hardcore football fans" reacted to the obviously false (if you have any idea how the draft works) news with the usual insightful analysis that we get after every Cowboys win or loss.

2014-01-03 11:59:03 AM
Actually, this only proves that they are the most known team in football.

NFL.com did a survery asking who the favorite team was and it was the Cowboys again.

So they are the most like and most hated.

So article  may have facts and is still wrong.
