The only pic I got was of some guy drinking coffee walking down the street.

I remember being on the frozen Grand river when the ice decided to crack & shift. It was like standing on a clap of thunder - quite disconcerting.

What's even more disconcerted is that you can stand on parts of the Grand river without ice.

/no, not really, but still...

I have skied across it while the ice was breaking up. (I was an stupid-stupid teenager way back when.)

Depending on where you were, you might have gotten wet all the way up to your ankles!

This was a couple summers ago after we hadn't had much rain for a while. I'm glad he didn't try to jump in.

Yes - because the Grand River is consistently 6" deep along its WHOLE path. That's why 4 to 8 urban idiots drown in it every year.

More than half the people who live in Toronto right now were born in another country. Immigrants have a hard time making friends, even here in multicultural Canada. So they come to a new climate where things happen like ice explodes and tree branches fall off and cut power lines, but nobody warned them this can happen, and when it does they have nobody to phone up and ask.

Yeah, immigration is supposed to come along with 'sponsors" who help naturalize people and all sorts of government supports, but Canadians are really bad at helping new families to get used to the new weather and, at 3am a week after a huge power outage due to a medieval power grid, you can guess that people are afraid.

I've been hearing these the past couple of weeks. First time, I thought someone had dropped a bowling ball on the roof.
Glad to know what they're called now though.

Heard two of these in quick succession near Belleville, at dawn, Christmas morning. Had never heard, nor heard of, such a phenomenon.

Heard a few of these back around Christmas in Brampton.  It was loud enough to get me out of bed and checking the house, but since the dogs weren't barking, I wasn't too concerned.  No idea what it was at the time.  Had a couple of them happen last night as well, but they sounded more like raccoons on the roof, so I rolled over and went back to sleep.  Good thing I'm a lazy ass.

Seriously? Nobody else caught the part where the reporter's last name is Sledz?!

Sat through that thing and they didn't even have audio of one? Fail news story, fail!
