Well, I was already going to abstain from the cars they mock. Of course, I was also going to abstain from their overpriced trash, so I'm not exactly their target market

My Toyota has 10-way adjustable heated leather seats, a JBL sound system, sun roof, auto-dimming rearview mirror, running boards, etc., etc., etc. Why would I buy a luxury car?

Audi is making the best cars of the 2 big German marks, but not by a lot.

And yes, all are overpriced.

They have been spending way too much time on the internet and don't realize that the snarky twits here rarely have the money to buy a car, much less a new one.

Cars keep people poor.

To be fair BMW and Mercedes are not luxury brands anymore. Sure they have a lux offering, but the brand themselves are not luxury, per se

Yeah, I've never understood the appeal of the luxury divisions of the major auto makers (Cadillac, Lincoln, Lexus, Infiniti, Acura). They're the McMansions of cars. You can get almost exactly the same vehicle, usually with  more options and features, at half the price from their "main" brands (Chevy/Buick, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Honda).

But I've never understood the use of "the thing that gets me to work and to the store" as a status symbol. And if you're truly wealthy, you're probably looking at Bentley, Rolls, or some type of exotic or a desirable classic/antique vehicle.

lexus drivers-grandparents
Lexus has the oldest average customer of the three leading luxury brands in the U.S., according to  , which annually surveys tens of thousands of car shoppers. The average Lexus buyer is 61, compared with 54 for Mercedes and 49 for BMW.

my parents are in their 80's. if lexus is going to keep making old people's cars they need to simpllfy the controls. my parents have wanted to replace their lexus for years but they don't want all the buttons and gizmos. they want luxury but just one dial to work the heat or a/c etc... they have had the car for 12 years and still put the a/c and heat on at the same time cuz they just don't know how to work any of the automatic temp and programming crap.

starlost: they have had the car for 12 years and still put the a/c and heat on at the same time cuz they just don't know how to work any of the automatic temp and programming crap.

If they can't figure out that turning the knob to the temperature they want it to be makes it become the temperature they want it to be, maybe they should consider not driving anymore instead of getting a new car.

My first new car as a gainfully employed professional adult was a 2004 Audi A4. Worst mistake of my life. It was an absolute money pit. Nothing ever worked. Parts would break for no reason, e.g., one of the power window controls. The entire power steering system broke at 70,000 miles and had to be replaced. A year later the timing chain broke. I parted it out and bought a Honda Civic and I have never been happier. Low payment, low insurance, cheap maintenance. If I knew back then what I know now...

FOOL!  My 1983 Toyota Starlet has seats, windows, and AM/FM cassette.  Why anyone would pay for an M3 when you can get all of that in a 30 year old car is crazy.

Sweet.  They look cool this year too.  My wife hardly ever notices a car, but she spontaneously said, "That's cool." when she saw one.

Can't be worse than that recent Cadilac commercial with the guy "blowing the doors off" all the other cars on the road all while sporting a stupid smug look on his face.  I'll take advertising to smug douches over straight up promoting driving like an asshole any day.

we have two cars: a 2011 328i and a 2008 328xi wagon. both are 6-speed manuals. both have silky-smooth normally aspirated straight six engines. and both are freaking awesome cars.

if i had 20k to spend, i'd much rather buy a 5 year old BMW than a new honda.

They're trying to get people who drove Volkswagens in college to upgrade to an Audi after landing their first good job.

VAG is trying to get into a better "cradle to grave" position with their products.

Don't forget the "Stacy's mom" commercial where the soccer mom is getting out of her CTS and all the dads are pitching a tent in their pants.

Unless I'm rolling in 7 figures and out of ideas of what to do with it I'll never own a foreign car again, unless Detroit loses it's quality edge again.

In 2011 I bought used 2010 GMC Yukon XL (basically a suburban) to cart around the family.  A brake job on this for the rear brakes was $149.

On the previous import vehicle I was quoted just over $900 for the same brake job.

How about no....especially when this is heavier (which helps in the snow), gets better gas mileage, has nearly every option available, including a DVD player to keep the kiddos somewhat entertained on the 700 mile road trip to the grandparents, and enough room to pack stuff for toddler twins, a 6 year old, and two adults for a week.

We do have a 7 year old sedan for grocery getting and trips where only 1-2 people are going on errands, etc.

It sounds like you have very bad luck since your A4 didn't even have a timing chain.

Enjoy it, when my BMW was on the road it was fantastic. But it was far from a reliable car, and I didn't care while under warranty since I always got loaners and the car excited me to drive. Then at 70k miles I had a two window regulators, a power steering pump, bushings, and control arms all need replacement in 6 months, so I only fixed the power steering pump and dumped the car soon after.

I'd consider a BMW again, but only in a lease or CPO with the 100k mile warranty.

Are Infiniti drivers pompous asses?  I contend that they are, based on personal experience and that godawful annual "Infiniti limited engagement" ads.

/You know the ad I'm talking about.
//Two rich, metrosexual douchebags in turtlenecks "race" down a snowy alpine road in their $50K+ cars.
///I like my Pontiac.

Audi drivers really are the trailer trash of the luxury car market.

BMW is for men with performance issues. (no exceptions)

Benz is for people with image issues.(exception CLS and S models)

Lexus is for morons (exception, new IS250)
