It's not about baby stealing, it's that they want to head off any future appearances like this...

Long term planning.

Just got to fill them with cheddar and deep fry them, first.

I don't know how it works in the rest of the country, but it took at least 6+ weeks for our oldest son's birth announcement to show up in the local paper.

I'm just going to go out on a limb and say that most are published after the kid is home, right?

I heard that in big cities, kids will drive around at night with their lights off. And if you flash your lights at them, they'll knock you out and steal your baby.

I only have ever heard about one baby thief and the only thing anyone cared about was that she was driving a caddy to pick up her welfare checks.

Wisconsin newspaper to stop printing, for fear that it's 2014 and the internet has rendered printed news obsolete

It's more like birth announcements take away from paid advertising space, like memorials.

Theft is not the issue, it's dingos.

You'd think that a baby that could drive a car could find a better way to make money than welfare and stealing.

They're craftier than I gave them credit for if they've made it to Wisconsin from Australia.

Probably more than that for infants. And mostly by women.

But if we can't make up reasons to believe the world is more dangerous than ever how will we convince people that we should go back to the "good old days" when things were safer?

Back in the day, small market radio stations used to do hospital reports. These consisted of the names and addresses of everyone admitted, discharged, died, born, etc., and again, with full address. It was usually the most popular feature, and always sold out to sponsors. CSB: I was working for KSAL in Salina, Kansas in the early 1980s when they decided the hospital reports were too podunk and they dropped them. They got so much hate mail, that they put them back on a couple of weeks later.

this stupid trope comes around every few years.  back when the little Scarfs were born one of Mrs. Scarf's more moronic friends made it sound like there were feral packs of baby snatchers armed with the birth announcements in one hand and a gunny sack in the other.  it just isn't true.  plus it's not like anyone can sneak in while your sleeping since both of you are never asleep at the same time, especially with the first one.

They do need to do something about this baby-stealing  problem, along with Hell's Grannies and vicious gangs of keep left signs.

This goes a long way toward explaining why Wisconsinites make the electoral choices they do.

Goddamn baby snatchers stole my first 6 babies, but I got a good feeling about #7 now that the paper isn't printing birth announcements!

Maybe it's because we've lost the sense of community as a nation.

People are no longer interested in what their neighbors are doing, and when they are the information certainly doesn't come from some local newspaper.

It's on facebook or the bulletin board at whatever place you're actually involved with in your community.

2014-01-03 11:05:04 AM
this is why we can't have good babies.

When my oldest was born the hospital put a tag on their umbilical cord and the doors out of the maternity ward were triggered to alarm (and lock) if you got too close to them with the baby. One of the times I took my daughter for a walk she started to fuss and I looked down instead of where I was going. Alarm goes off, doors lock and about 6 orderlies and 4 nurses show up in less than 10 seconds.
