Wait, and they used Obama for the illustration why?  Oh, so that the nutcases from the politics tab could say "He's the perfect donor, since he has two faces..."

In my case, I plan to donate all the organs, then donate the corpse to the County Medical Examiner.

Cheat the undertaker out of a paycheck.

I would have gone with a headline something like:
"Organ donors will soon have to choose whether or not they want to save face."

2014-01-02 06:35:31 PM
Or "Cut off your nose to save a face."

I have a healthcare directive that requires my healthcare proxy to donate every single thing of any use, when i go, or if i will require permanent round the clock.care. Pull all plugs and distributewhatever could be useful.

I wouldn't mind donating whatever what was useful to someone since I'm not going to be using it anymore and my family doesn't do viewings and cremates.  So it's not like it would make the difference between an open casket send-off and a closed one.

I wonder if you could stipulate that the face needs to go somewhere far away rather than stay in your own community.  I'm sure my loved ones would love the idea that my face would be making a huge difference in someone else's life, but I don't think they'd dig having to encounter someone around town wearing my face where they could still have to see it after I'm gone.  It's one thing to know in their mind that somewhere out there there's someone wearing my face, but it would be a whole other horrible thing to have to deal with that face all the time checking them out at the grocery store or standing in line beside them at the bank or coaching their kid's little league team or whatever.

They wouldn't look like you at all, unless you had an oddly recognizable mole or tattoo or something.  The underlying bone structure changes everything.  The skin doesn't really make up all that people recognize as you.

Good point that I hadn't considered.  Yeah, mostly my own face is pretty typical.  It has moles and scars and such that you'd easily know were mine if you knew to be looking for them, but wouldn't think of as necessarily being mine if you weren't actively trying to match them up to me.

Wouldn't they need to sort of mimic the donor's bone structure and other facial underskin fleshy parts to make the transplanted face fit right?  I wouldn't think they could just lay it over or stretch it over whatever's there already and sew it down and have it look like a face.  It would like Leatherface or Jocelyn Wildenstein or something wouldn't it?

They took the question about whether the person looked like the donor in a lot of the news articles when they started doing these, and always said they would not.  I imagine they have to get a similar size, but not the same skull and muscles exactly... I doubt they could manage that currently even if they tried.  Also, if you've seen pictures, they don't look instantly recovered either.  I imagine the skin somewhat adapts to what it is put on... the year later photos are much better.  Google some images.  They are not going to mistake them for the donors at all.

Yeah, same as the rest of the body.  Warn them the face doesn't help until about 1:30 AM, but it's cool after that.
