I was watching darts on two different channels my last trip to London (just flipping back and forth).

One channel was almost golf-like in the announcing. Subdued, polite.

The other channel was darts done as if by WWE. Screaming announces, costumed competitiors, just completely over the top. "ONE HUNDRED AND.... EIGHTY!!!".

I have to admit I was glued to the TV by both approaches, and gained an appreciation for darts.

Darts as a vicarious form of entertainment makes no sense.  Everyone can play darts. Same with bowling.  Like playing darts but watching fat gits do it is really dumb.

They really ought to have to hold a beer in their non-throwing hand.

Kinda like chess, or curling, or golf.

I dunno; I think you can appreciate it as a skill, especially if you've played competitively. I didn't really care to watch golf until I tried the game.

It's the one bar game that I'm actually good at. I used to go to an Irish pub in Phoenix where they would occasionally have darts on, and I enjoyed watching it(At least for awhile). I was watching the more subdued version, but they still covered it well, and actually made it interesting. I've kinda been hoping over the years that I would come across it again. Maybe on 'The Ocho'...

Everyone can play football, everyone can play baseball. What's your point? Just like both of those, talented people can wipe the floor with you in darts.

Bristow used to give demos for Unicorn where he would play from his knees against anyone in attendance. I'm betting he rarely, if ever, lost.

I HATE the farking theme tune to the PDC competitions, it shows that most of the wankers that go there aren't interested in the competition, they only want to get their lardass faces on TV, jump around and bleat the tune like retards. If you watched football and saw 60,000 people sing the CBS NFL tune while waiving around like windowlickers you'd be praying for meteorites on a weekly basis.

Funny thing about that. They ain't allowed to drink beer anymore because of that NTNOCN sketch previously mentioned. Something about making it less slovenly.

Yeah, people think it's a piece of cake since they usually hit something good, but once you play against someone good, things change. Suddenly the game is over before you've hit anything worthwhile.

I got to watch almost all of the matches. I really enjoyed it.

I think a big part of it being enjoyable to watch is playing it as well. Plus it's good to have a reminder that even a pro can have a fantastic break down in the middle of a set and get destroyed.

As far as their "athletic build" goes...probably not the best food, sleeping in hotels, bar scenes, things like that.
