(Yahoo)   Ok now this is getting a bit ridiculous: Pope Francis named Esquire magazine's "Best Dressed Man" of 2013 for his white retro-Renaissance ensemble. Expect to see cassocks, caplets and beanies all over the runways in Paris and Milan this year   (news.yahoo.com) divider line 16

He's dressed better than all his predecessors -- who dressed exactly the same?

Does this count as a repeat if we discussed this last week?

Is there an optional choirboy?

/no, I'm not impressed with the "new direction" until the old crimes are dealt with.

He does wear it well, no doubt about that, and I can't say I object to any kind of comeback in rennie-esque fashions.

The last time this story was posted it was about 10 stories above the prior time it had been posted.  Are we going for some sort of record?

I was under the impression that this Pope didn't go for all the gold and extravagant clothing that his predecessors liked. He seems to be a lot more simple and humble, including with the way he dresses.
Is that not accurate?

The general day-to-day "uniform" hasn't changed a lot over the last few popes.  As for the most formal & ceremonial occasions, I'm not sure, maybe you're right.  Traditions run deep in the Church and are far beyond my understanding.  ...but the most ostentatious items (e.g., the papal tiara ) were retired decades ago.

Here's John Paul II in 1980:

Here's Francis today:

Their clothing is essentially identical.
