I need a hobby.

But yesterday I finished reading "The Tiger's Wife". A very, very good book if you're a fan of story telling.

Working on a Jugendstil-style Adirondack chair which is my first woodworking project. Trying to do some redesigning of the original as I go along and just finished cutting the arms of the chair:

That's awesome!

Man, I have so many hobbies that I just can't get around to right now with having a 3 and a 1 year old.  I haven't played my guitar in ages...even running is getting sparse.

Just finished reading Midworld by Forward last night. Again.

And tomorrow I have to make a huge batch of Potica and Holubky. Cooking and baking are kinda hobbies, right?

There's also my booming business of penis bone charms on Amazon.

Just finished Ready Player One last night and loved the hell out of it.

Started reading Spin last night. Also the last of the Divergent series. Gonna get The Maze Runner tonight when I get home. I love me some YA dystopian shiat.

Well, I'm still reading Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie.  Very good Monte Cristo-esque revenge story in the same fantasy setting as his First Law Trilogy.

The reason it's taken me more than a month to get through that, despite how much I like it, is that I'm also reading the new rule book for 5th Edition Shadowrun, since my gaming group is trying to make the jump from 3rd Edition.

I flew out to Montana and long story short, I will finally be able to reupholster my chair

As far as a "creative" hobby... I'm helping my fella design a tabletop card game.

My husband is also going to have me draw his comic or something like that.

I don't know what possessed me to google that.

Trying to get back into running since I injured my foot in the half marathon.

My sister suggested "writing" the alphabet with my toe every morning. So far that seems to be helping.

LlamaGirl: Also the last of the Divergent series.

Do you see what I mean now?

Since I've bee rereading everything in the house, I pulled an old Dean Koontz novel from the back of my closet and started rereading it. Only to discover that I never had.  That was a pleasant surprise.

But I think I am done with rereading.  It's time for a trip to the bookstore.  Any suggestions?

I finished the Divergent series over the Christmas holidays.  The reviews on the last book made me wary, but I was pleasantly surprised.

2014-01-02 09:27:33 AM
I got a whole bunch of stuff for Christmas that will supposedly teach me how to solder and will teach me about circuits and stuff. I'm pretty excited to start.

The face I am making right now... Oh god.

I'm just gonna keep a list in notepad to paste.

Hunger Games (yes, I am seriously)
Ready Player One
Wool
The Handmaids Tale
American Gods
Under the Dome

I get frustrated easily and give up. I need something physical that forces me to be involved more. I'd like to finally try out bouldering

I've added five figurines since the last pic I took of my collection but I need to redo the display case as I've run out of room so no pic yet. Drawing-wise I got nothing to show as I've primarily been practicing tracing, usually naughty stuff.

2014-01-02 09:31:14 AM
I have been working on a cabin.  We bought a wood cabin about a year ago and I have gutted it and completely refinished everything but the bathroom.  Next year I will work more on the outside and do the bathroom too.

I wish I could read as a hobby. I know a lot of people who do and they talk all about the different things they are reading and a lot of it is interesting to hear about. But holy hell I spend 8-10 hours a day at work a large portion of which is reading/writing documentation, reading/writing code and reading technical docs on new languages, tools etc. So when I get home the last thing I want to do is read anything

I'm going to make a little entertainment center / tv stand for the tv I got for christmas pretty soon.  I've been hunting pretty regularly for the past few weeks.  I built a shelf for my sister in law for christmas.

Tat'dGreaser: bouldering

Despite the fact that it has a much lower equipment and skill barrier to get into than top-roping, I actually think top-roping is a better way to get into climbing because it's physically easier and, to me, much more fun (since you get to go high!  wheee!)  You may be fit/strong enough that it won't matter, though.

I'm telling you...The Tiger's Wife. It was recommended to me and I'm returning the favor.

The hobbies I spend most of my free time on are bowling and golf. Since it's approximately -40041 degrees outside, golf is shelved for a while so it's bowling season.

Here's a picture of my balls.

Copy editor here, read all day for a living but still read on a book every night. The only thing that gets to me about it is when they f*cked something up, misplaced comma, wrong word, etc.; and I have to keep myself from making edits to it with a red pen.

Oh I'd love to do both, just bouldering is easier to do on your own

I am still reading The Divine Hammer from The Kingpriest trilogy. Other than that, this year I am looking to move the dryer into the laundry area so I can turn that room into a gaming room. I also have to fix the basement door so it can be opened from the outside. I am going to try to start a monthly board/card gaming group.

THat sounds like a very specific fetish. :)

But seriously I think that I understand that you are talking about.  I kind of like the "behind the scenes" of most any industry.

It's winter, so no gardening yet; I've been pottering around with some family genealogy instead, hoping to break into the 1600s shortly.

My wife is growing our new hobby right now, with a release date of mid-March.

Probably spare and strike balls for different oil patterns. Plus casual balls for non league play. We have a few guys in our league that bring four balls to games.
