Well, Pierce is gone.  That's good.  Troy is going.  That's bad.  Pierce is being replaced by Mike from Breaking Bad.  That's good.

I enjoy Community.  Sure, the more recent episodes have felt like it's trying too hard, but I still find it better than most stuff on TV.

That would line up perfectly, except for two things:
1) Chevy Chase is no Phil Hartman, not by a long shot
2) They've already announced they're replacing him with this guy:

I've got to say, I'm really curious to see how well he fits in on the show.  I don't thing I've seen him do a comedic role before, and he's supposedly in for most of the season.

He doesn't even really need to say anything. Just that deadpan "You're a farking dumbass" look he's so good at is a great counterpoint to the weirdness that will undoubtedly occur this season.

Maybe he'll be used similarly to how Omar from The Wire was.

I was going to say The Big Bang Theory, a show for which I've never understood the appeal. I don't find Two and a Half Men funny, but I can see why some people would find it funny. The type of people I would expect to enjoy the humor of Big Bang Theory would be the people I would expect to want better, more realistically drawn characters or some sort of acknowledgement that they were cartoon characters.

WhoIsWillo: ...some sort of acknowledgement that they were cartoon characters.

What more could you possibly ask of them in that regard?  They would have to be literally animated for them to be any more cartoonish.

I meant in-universe. Maybe I've missed it, but there's no real explanation about what world these people are supposed to live in.

It got screwed up the same way Chuck did. They never backed either show enough to worry about not getting cancelled, then finally told the showrunners it was ending. Both series had wonderful endings, then both were thrown back into the lineup when the network's other shows shiat the bed. Add to that Dan Harmon having a falling out with Chase and one of the higher-ups, and you had a recipe for the dumpster fire that was Season 4.

Over the past few weeks, I've been going through the DVD commentaries (picked up the season sets pretty cheap recently).  I can easily understand Harmon butting heads with the network guys to try to get what he wanted on screen, but I just can't fathom why Chevy stayed with the show as long as he did unless it was just for the paycheck.  He seemed to just not "get" the vast majority of the jokes in the show and it came across that he was not the cast's favorite person to work with.

I'm really optimistic about the new season now that Harmon's back.  The early reviews fort he first few episodes have it as being much better than last year.  I also don't think I'll miss Chevy all that much.  Hopefully Troy leaving is handled well.  I think I'd rather have him in a diminished role for the entirety of the season than a starring role for only a fraction of it.

Community regularly acknowledges its own absurdity, often multiple times in an episode.
