I have friends that went to both schools, and I love Austin, but UT is not a place that I like. I hope he stays with MSU.

wxboy: Looks like Texas got beaten to the raise.

Either Mack Brown or perhaps the Texas AD should get kickbacks from every coach who gets a big raise after being mentioned for the UT job. If a coach's agent is doing his job right, he'd be floating rumors about interest in his client to anyone who will listen.

Dantonio doesnt have an agent, and he's not going anywhere. This isn't another Nick Saban they are dealing with; Dantonio actually has class and lives up to his word.

Aren't all the major coaches represented by only two or three agents?

Good, msu would have become a powerhouse in the big tenor they had managed to keep saban. He managed a similar couple of winning seasons during a time when msu was Michigan's perennial biatch. Hopefully they keep dantonio around long enough to establish a more permanent turnaround of fates with msu becoming the defacto power in the state. Michigan needs a few lean decades so they can learn to stfu and being so goddamned stuck up.

Ford Field is in the State of Michigan. The Fords have always seemed to obsess over talent coming out of MSU, too. Come on, Dantonio... the pros are calling you.

Win-win for me, as a Lions and a Wolverines fan.

That's entirely possible. It's a weird racket.

According to the talking heads during the game last night, Dantonio isn't represented by an agent.  But these petty raises don't really mean anything to Texas.  The word is that they're ready to go 8 figure yearly salary with extremely high salary allowances for assistant coaches.  You can't ignore how important taking care of their assistants is to these head coaches:  They were in the same situation and know that it's how their profession is propagated.

I still can't believe that was Coach Shaw's game plan - run up the middle twice and then try for a long bomb.  Ugh.

Do all the penalties that Baylor gets called for send up any warnings regarding Briles and team discipline? I haven't paid much attention to any problems that Baylor did/didn't have, but hearing the stat that they led the country in penalties (at least I think that's what I heard) and with all the calls against them last night, it made me wonder.

Agree wholeheartedly. I can't stand State, but you can't really say anything negative about Dantonio. Both UM and MSU have classy coaches right now and the rivalry could be entering a new level. The next several years should be interesting to watch.

/OSU, on the other hand, got the douchebag they deserve

As a Michgan fan who spent the last 20 years in the Lansing/East Lansing area before moving to Kalamazoo I agree with that sentiment. I need something to hold on to. The WMU Broncos stunk it up this season. Row the Boat my *ss. The boat sunk.

I do sometimes wonder what the draw there is though.  If you're making $5 million a year in a job you currently love where the people there love you, what is the draw o fa $10 million a year job?  Honestly, I don't understand how your lifestyle would change $5 million a year versus $10 million a year.  But if he moves and wants to take care of his assistants, that means uprooting all of their families.

I'm lookin at you Bert Bielma you dick.

Really?  You don't understand the draw of $5 million a year?  In a career that can tank in two years?  And where you have to rely on 20 year old kids to make your living?

You just want the bad man to go away and stop beat the living sh*t out of your team.

Your fan base sure has taken on the persona of abused step children.

I respect Dantonio and his ability to coach. The new season can always bring new optimism to a fan of any team. With or without Dantonio coaching MSU, the Wolverines still need to get the job done, and I hope they will this season.

I don't mind admitting the desire for an advantage, though.

bacongood: You don't understand the draw of $5 million a year?

No, I don't understand the draw of $10 million a year when you are already making $5 million a year.

bacongood: In a career that can tank in two years?

No, it really can't.  Name a coach who's career you think "tanked."  I'm sure you have lots of examples.  I'll give you one - Mike Singletary.  He "tanked" miserably as a 49ers head coach.  He's currently an assistant coach for the Vikings.  When a head coach "tanks" they become an assistant coach elsewhere.  It's not like they're done from any football related job forever.
