Man City is 7-1-1 (22 points) against the top half of the table.
Everton is 5-3-1 (18)
Arsenal is 5-2-2 (17)
Chelsea is 4-3-2 (15)
Newcastle is 3-2-4 (11)
Man United is 2-3-4 (9)
Tottenham is 2-3-4 (9)
Southampton is 2-3-4 (9)
Liverpool is 2-2-5 (8)
Hull is 2-0-7 (6)

But Liverpool is the only team not to lose to a bottom ten team.  The only dropped points was a draw against Swansea.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United, and Tottenham all have a single loss and a draw against the bottom ten.

I quote desertgeek from the last EPL thread:

If you look at road games, here's the tough ones left for each of the top teams (presented in order of how I pulled them up)

Liverpool: Man Utd
Arsenal: Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea, Everton
Chelsea: Man City, Liverpool
Everton: Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle
Man City: Newcastle, Tottenham, Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton
Man Utd: Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle, Everton
Newcastle: Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool (final day of the season)
Tottenham: Man Utd (Wednesday), Newcastle, Chelsea, Liverpool

So Man City still has to visit 6 of the current top 8 teams. Only Sunderland has more visits to top 8 teams still to come at 7, with 2 other teams tied with Citeh. Conversely, no team has as few such games left as Liverpool does. Everyone else has at least 2 of the 8 to visit.

2014-01-01 09:36:14 AM
Swans! I'd like to see this score hold for goal differential, but Swans coming back with one more in stoppage time would be brilliant

Perversely, the fixture list has done City a huge favor. If they had visited the other top teams in the first half of the season, they likely would have lost to many of them. But now they get to visit them just as their away form is starting to come right.

I would actually prefer to see Liverpool win the league this year than City, and I never thought I would say that.

Every American ought to notice Everton. Howard is having a fantastic year.

WHY DO YOU SIMULATE WHEN THE GOAL IS WIDE OPEN?

2014-01-01 11:18:26 AM
Haha, Oscar breaks clean on the Southampton keeper, looks like the keeper took him out but he's booked for simulation. Replay confirms that the ref's call was correct. If he hadn't dove, Oscar would have scored.

I still remember when I was scared every time Real faced Atletico with him in that squad. How much that man has changed... The only semblance of the old Torres I see is when he plays for Spain on occasion.

And at an age where he should be in his prime. I'd understand if he was in his 30s, since that's when players start to dip.

I'll give dip in form to the surgeries, that's fair. But his form didn't just dip, it cratered and stayed awful long after his surgeries.

Everton are just cursed today. So many good touches, good moves, but they fall apart at the crucial moment.

I've seen it happen to golfers, snooker players, even a darts player -- but never a soccer player. And there have been times when Torres definitely looks like he has the yips in front of goal.

+75 for the day. Insurance still to come on the late game.

Not good to lose at West Brom.

The following is likely my only post in this thread until I can see match highlights later:

I was hoping to get up in time to watch Liverpool- Hull City, but the jackasses next door decided to party until 3am and then some dipshiat shot their damn gun in to the air about 20 times from not that far away at 3:15. So I couldn't get to sleep until about 4am when the match was kicking off at 8am. Sleep is far more important than a match I knew we would win.

And Lord Jubjub, thanks for reposting my stuff from the weekend thread. I appreciate it.

Langston: Stuck with 2-2. So let me congratulate United on a blowout win

YEah, I stuck with a 2-1 United win.  However I'll gladly give up 10 points for a draw/Spur victory.

United looking pretty dominant to start the game.

Wow, can't believe Webb didn't call that

LOL Everton!

There, now I'm caught up

This is starting to look like one of those games where Utd dominate possession without getting the ball into the box nearly enough... and then end up losing to a sloppy goal.

They have. The difference that Fabio makes is that he runs on beyond Valencia and either drags a defender with him, allowing Valencia to cut inside, or becomes an option to receive the ball himself. By contrast, Smalling tends to hang back behind Valencia, offering only the inside-back pass, so Valencia has far fewer options when running at or past the full back.

Despite looking in control, Utd really haven't troubled the Spurs 'keeper yet, have they?

Ade can be really lazy and I think that AVB wanted a disciplined defensive unit. Neither of those words apply to Adebayor, but he can create beautiful goals sometimes.

When Ade's brother died, Ade went back home for the funeral. Ade took his time coming back.

Nice to see a bit of fight (and in the Hull game too), but results-wise United just cannot compete with the top teams. I think that's one win in nine games against the top nine.

Valencia strikes me as not very intelligent. You know how some players have a picture of their mind of everything around them. He just ... doesn't.

The diving is ridiculous.

Valencia seems to be a very instinctive player. That's why I like to see him partnered with Fabio. Fabio has a habit of running to where Valencia needs to play the ball which leads Valencia to follow his instincts. Without that, Valencia tends to get down the wing and then... not know what to do next. Worst case, he will stop completely and stand there doing a bunch of stepovers like a complete and utter Nani.

The diving is ridiculous.

Yes. Yes it is. And I say that as a Man Utd fan.

You mean Rafael. Fabio is the one who started the CL final 2.5 years ago but can't get a game at all now. Play central defenders or wingers at full-back, anyone except an actual full-back. But yeah, you're right.

I've moved up into Global 24th. Puts me on the first page and makes me quite nervous.

Your time machine might get exposed.

And to see their chances of success as long as Tan is there, regardless of manager; just look at your Fark handle.

689908: czetie: Valencia seems to be a very instinctive player.

You mean Rafael. Fabio is the one who started the CL final 2.5 years ago but can't get a game at all now. Play central defenders or wingers at full-back, anyone except an actual full-back. But yeah, you're right.

Yes I do. I was questioning that even as I wrote it, but couldn't be bothered to check it because hey, it's Fark.

Last season Fabio was out on loan at QPR, but he's back this year. IIRC (and chances of that are pretty slim, it turns out) he's had one Prem start and warmed the bench a few times. I'd love to see him displace Evra, but he seems to be very fragile.

Haha.

689908: Nails it.

Yep. Rooney hitting precision long passes onto RvP's feet = deadly. Wingers hitting high balls into nobody in particular = deathly. Desperately need that attacking midfielder.

BTW, I once confused Marcus and Michael Vick in an American football thread, so mixing up two identical twins is pretty small potatoes for me.
