This is a step towards equality. Alcohol and tobacco are both worse for you than cannabis

Cannabis is the English word ... the fact the US uses the Spanish word marijuana speaks volumes to the political history of this issue.

It'll be interesting to see how much tax revenue this brings in. If pot tourism becomes a net positive for states that legalize recreational use, a lot more states will want to get in on the action. That will of course kill the tourism market for it, creating a need for local use. It'll be funny to see state chambers of commerce and agriculture departments starting buy local campaigns for a plant they previously demonized.

So, NH wants to do for marijuana what they have done for liquor? Being the "go to" place for out of state residents?

http://www.concordmonitor.com/home/7703983-95/nh-liquor-sales-hit-re co rd-in-fiscal-2013-but-revenue-came-in-below-target

More than half of New Hampshire's liquor sales are made to out-of-state residents. The top five stores in terms of sales last year are all located on or near the state's borders: the two stores on Interstate 95 in Hampton plus stores in Portsmouth, Salem and Nashua.
Liquor and wine sales are a major source of revenue for New Hampshire's state government.

There will be some hold outs, and some won't budge, but once states see the potential for tax revenue, the opposition will start to evaporate. Consider this: Colorado already sees about $9 million in tax revenue from Medical mj, mostly from license fees. With recreational cannabis, there will be a 25% tax imposed. Growers can barely keep up with demand as it is. Now that recreational cannabis is legal, there will be be even more permits, and the recreational market is probably bigger than the medical market. The potential for revenue is huge, and when put in that perspective, well big money will prevail.

It's a weird state. A lot of left leaning younger folks in the major cities versus a lot of right leaning folks in the country. Here in NEPA it's practically 50/50

Lord, and it would be part of the State Store system. Better that NY, NJ, MD, WV and OH all legalize it and the Puritans well removed from the borders can continue to feel fully moral.

And PA could make its money busting the drivers coming back from the legalized states.

Sure, it takes all day to do two hours of chores, but at least you're content.

Well, bringing in firewood for the stove so I don't freeze is a chore I guess. Keeping the place tidy, too. But who wants to live in a freezing pigsty even if you are high? Frankly, I enjoy being out in the cold. Heading down to the lake in a few minutes to see how thick the ice is.

Not today - I'm a long way from any open shop, and don't feel like making the drive for what looks like to be a limited supply.

But contrary to popular belief, the world has yet to end.  Course, I'm not watching FAUX News either....

For someone who has absolutely no clue about pot: How much is an once of pot? Is a few plants worth or just a joint or two?

2014-01-01 12:54:04 PM
To me the whole situation is quite hilarious. I don't partake, but I don't care if you do, and lots of people seem to get a kick out of the kind herb. Kinda like gay marriage, really. I'm not gonna get gay married, but I've got friends who seem to be pretty stoked to be able to do so. I just figured that the entrenched interests would keep marijuana illegal for the foreseeable future, and yet here we are in 2014 talking about another state contemplating legalizing it.

2014-01-01 12:55:10 PM
An ounce is an ounce. You can get 20-30 good joints out of it. A clone might yield less than an ounce or much more, depending.

2014-01-01 12:55:13 PM
Won't happen.   House will pass it but the Senate won't.  The governor has said she'll veto it anyway.  However all elected terms are 2 years in NH so give it a couple years and who knows.

Somebody tell that to CT Gov. Malloy. He'd fark his own mother for 15 cents on the revenue side of next years budget.

New Hampshire legalized medical marijuana in July 2013 and the world didn't end.    Of course they law as passed was extremely limited and I don't think it's been implemented yet, but Gov. Maggie Hassan did sign HB 573.   So never say never.

The state allows retail beer and wine stores to sell 7 days a week starting before 7AM, so is not unfamiliar with relaxing laws to maximize tax revenue.   $30 an ounce on weed would help keep NH free of sales tax on nearly everything else.

I don't know how thick the ice was, but there was a good 6" of snow on top and there were snowmobile tracks all over the lake. No danger of breaking through... at least that close to the beach.

Just dropping in to say that I just got back from the Northern Lights recreational marijuana shop in Edgewater, Colorado. I legally purchased 1/8 of Sour Diesel, 1/8 of Apollo 13, some gummy bear edibles and a bottle of sarsaparilla flavored "elixer".

Happy New Years from Rocky Mountain High Colorado!

Ignoring that federal law is major problem, I have question about legalizing (or decriminalizing whatever that means) below one ounce of mary jane.

How do people get it then?  Can store be open, can people legally grow it?  It is sort of ignoring the major question.  It is ok for people to enjoy when not driving or it isn't.  It really isn't answering that moral question that some people are afraid to handle.
