It's really kind of sad.  The goldbugging was bad enough, but now Chik-Fil-A and A&E have shown that all you have to do is have one of your people say something mildly offensive about gays, wait for a liberal group to complain, and then sit back while the Tea Party crowd throws their money at you in the name of free speech.

Doesn't seem like the "wait for a liberal groups to complain" part is really necessary either.  You can just have them say it and then suspend them, and let everybody simply assume that some liberal group was raising hell about it.

Did anybody actually hear about this "scandal" due to people complaining about what Phil said, or did they hear about it due to right wing media complaining about Phil getting suspended?

I have this "brilliant" idea. I need help.

Step one: Someone comes out and says some idiotic, racist, homophobic crap. Make sure to tie in patriotism into it.

Step two: Someone else goes all "librul" on them and tells them they are wrong ...etc.

Step three: Person one shouts about their Freedom of Speech, religion and what ever else being denied to them.

Step four: Another group of people starts a super pac stating that they won't stand for "those damn libruls" who want to tell real 'muricans what to think.

Step five: Profit!

/I have decided that this year I will be "morally ambiguous".

There were a few groups who made some noise, such as GLAAD. That I believe would be seen as a liberal organization.

To elaborate...

GLAAD was one of the key groups that condemned Robertson after controversial comments he made about gays and blacks in GQ magazine. The group's outrage helped prompt the suspension of Robertson by A&E.

Hopefully this whole incident will pave the way for racism and homophobia to find their underappreciated niche in all of our favorite TV shows. I'd really like to see the Old Man and Chumley throwing around the N-word, Mythbusters doing a show on which wood makes the best crosses to burn, and a Dancing with the Stars tribute to Al Jolsen.

They should do an episode where the ugly guy with a hot wife does something stupid and his wife gets real mad.  That would be fresh and different.

2014-01-01 10:49:08 AM
Fox fired up the outrage machine, all but begging them to bite and drag this shiat out even longer than it already has.  Willie and his wife didn't bite, basically saying that they want to put it behind them.

Probably the best solution for all, they didn't want to anger GLADD etc. and didn't want to be seen as stepping back from their (well the one who did the interview in the first place) religious beliefs.

Now they can just go back to making a lowest common denominator reality comedy show that some people like and some people don't.

It's a perfectly cromulent end to this story.

Funny you should mention Tim Tebow, since when he was scheduled to speak at a racist, homophobic Southern Baptist megachurch, he canceled when GLAAD, et al pointed out just how terrible the church was. For as much as these people worship the blessed virgin Tim and think that his NFL career fizzled because of mythical anti-Christian bias, they won't follow his example when it means that they can't stand around screaming that they hate the gays.

I don't know what Timmy boy personally believes, but he at least had the decency to do what none of these other people will do and told the bigoted church to take a hike.

Oddly enough, I give people a log more leeway on the homophobic stuff because in some very darker up way, i can be construed as a religious belief. So I pass it off as something said by a brainwashed religious moron.

But honestly, looking back blissfully at life for blacks in the US before the civil rights era should be insulting to everybody, not just liberals. The fact that fox news and conservatives in general are so easy to dismiss that aspect of his statements tells me exactly why I want nothing to do with the likes of modern conservatives. You guys are the last bastion of old bigotry in this country.

I'm obviously way too smart to watch this show.

2014-01-01 01:47:40 PM
To Hell with GLAAD.
We're all too familiar with Robertson's original interview and  his subsequent doubling-down. GLAAD 's response to "some of the vilest and most extreme statements uttered against LGBT people in a mainstream publication" was to demand to speak with A&E.
Now, on the other hand, Glaad didn't ask for a conversation with his label when 50cent tweeted "Paris Hilton calld(sic) me a douchebag  so I had my homie shoot up a gay wedding, wasn't his,but still made me feel better." and then subsequently doubled-down with "Stop being so sensitve its a joke. Your acting like a big baby." and "my next song will make your sweet ass dance lol chill out." ( Do I need to it explain what "sweet" means in this context?)
His label didn't attempt to punish him in any way. As a matterof fact, many of the musicians and fans of his genre rallied to his support. GLAAD didn't demand that his views be removed from the limelight, they actually asked that his followers tweet him to "Tell 50cent to let his fans know that anti-gay violence isn't something to  joke about." That didn't increase his exposure, at all.
Why such glaringly different reactions to these events. Why open a dialogue with one and not the other? From what I can see, GQ reaches an audience of about 6 and a half million while 50cent has close to 7 and a half a million followers on Twiiter and gets 30 million likes on his Facebook page. ( Keep in mind I'm talking about GLAAD's original response to these seperate slights, not the events after Fox News' or the Hip Hop genre's involvement in their respective debates.)
I am I supposed to believe that the opinions of  the Duck Dynasty guy( a member of a demographic over which whose waning influence and eventual demise many of Glaad's supporter constantly gloat)  being mocked in GQ interview are as worrisome as those expressed  by a legitimate star of an increasingly influential musical genre? That's all the concern they can muster up when the bigotry is being cultivated among a growing group that will hold an even larger chunk of tommorrow's power?
Either these guys are absolute fools or GLAAD's agenda isn't limited  to only  the social acceptanceof LGBT people, as their name implies.
Again, to Hell with GLAAD.  I'm a queen, not a pawn.

2014-01-01 01:48:51 PM

"Happiness" is difficult to define but the black family was more cohesive then. In 1960 I believe about 29% of black children were born out of wedlock. In 2012 this jumped to approximately 75 %. The "Great Society" program effectively destroyed the black family; women could not get assistance if there was a man in the household. There was black on black crime but nothing like there is today. Without an authority figure to teach them how to be men black youth have come to the point where they kill each other over the slightest insult. The black man was made to feel useless. Jail/prison is another rite of passage for young blacks.

Were blacks happier then? I cannot say. To turn the question around, are blacks happier today?
