More horrific news from the Cleveland neighborhood...

Enough said.

I can imagine someone going apartment-hunting there.  "The rent here is really cheap... why is it called the Rape District though?"

Perhaps being fat, bald, ugly, odoriferous, hung like a gibbon, and possessing poor social skills lead men to this type of behavior -- the whole "lock the women up" fetish.

Christ.  That explains a lot about how the Castro thing went on for years with nobody noticing.

I think there was a 1st 48 episode from that 'hood involving the burnt body of a mental patient.

Yeah.  Pretty scary place.

I still don't think they should have torn his house down yet. They should have studied it first, to figure out how he was able to hide the captives so effectively. But you have a point: if a utility vault can go unchecked for 18 years, maybe that explains things enough.

Seriously. I'd have thought there would at least be inspections every 5 years or so.

My guess is that there is probably a Hell mouth located somewhere nearby. Check peoples basements for signs of occult rituals bent on opening it. Do it before it's too late.

The idea is to not let it sit around and become a tourist attraction/shiatshow that sullies what little reputation exists of the area.  You bulldoze it and put up a playground and instantly no one has any desire to go see just another playground.

So, of those who have seen Gothika- who do you think was the leader here? This dude, or Castro?

Cleveland has a wierd feel to it. I remember going once when i was 12 with an aunt whose husband was from there. I can't really explain why it was wierd. I do recall that we were in the city on moment and hit a corner and it was like we walked into the19th century.

If I lived in that neighborhood, I'd be so pissed about how low home values have probably been driven because of these people.

What I meant was that if the neighbor was a horrible excuse for a person, even if he noticed something, he would be less likely to report it.  On one hand, he might just be cool with it.  On the other, he might not want to bring a cop within a mile of his home.

This whole thing makes me a little nauseous.

I forget: Is that where the Scoobies moved the gang to in Season 8? It's been a while since I read them.
Also, if so: Spooooky.

Actually, I went to HS about 6 blocks from there.  It is, according to sites that gather such statistics, a rather low crime zip code, Especially violent crime.  W. 25th St., however is a vile, nasty, horrid, run down sh*hole.  Especially that part of it.  So, yeah, the "Well duh, cleveland" jokes are good for a dose of superiority, it's about a 4 block radius in an otherwise statistically very safe area.  We have some of the most overall calm and safe diverse neighborhoods of any city in America.  We also shave teeming, festering, hate filled septic pits full of f*ckups, mongoloids and violent detritus.  You know.  Like all the other large cities, here.

There was one guy about the same time as the Castro thing broke open had killed 2 - 3 women and had hidden their bodies (which had been wrapped in construction sheeting or some such) in abandoned garages or properties; at first they thought this activity might be related to Castro, but it was just your run-of-the-mill POS murderer.

There are houses in my town that I notice on my nightly walk that I think could easily have bodies in the freezer or something equally awful. Weird houses where the trash comes out on Monday night but no cars ever come or go, no one sees the owners, lights are on but no activity ever shows in the house. I won't' be the least bit surprised if I find out they were doing bizarre medical experiements in the house and it's full of people cross bred with octopuses.

Or it could be a sound that affects people in the neighborhood.  There is a rail overpass near there.

Noise Stress and Brain Function-Study

Stress can exacerbate a number of psychiatric disorders, many of which are associated with the prefrontal cortex (PFC), the area of the brain unique to humans. A Yale University study looked at the effects of noise stress on brain function in monkeys. Results indicate that stress impairs PFC cognitive function through its influence on dopamine, a key neurotransmitter that's involved in many brain disorders, including ADHD and Parkinson's disease.

The researchers think that "stress may take the PFC 'off-line' to allow more habitual responses . . . to regulate behavior. This mechanism may have survival value, but may often be maladaptive in human society, contributing to the vulnerability of the PFC in many neuropsychiatric disorders."
