Dear idiots.

If your race car, volume knob on your guitar amp or your gun collection is hard wired to your dick, try and leave other people out of it.

We got better things to do.

Honest.

Exactly, I've gotten my f'in PRIUS up to 100 mph.  It's really not designed for that at all and I'd have felt much safer in a Ferrari.

That poor rich guy with 6 DUI's - I mean he was never held responsible in the past so it's society's fault and he should not be held responsible now.

Judge James Dixon ordered Goodman held on $75,000 bail, noting that he had six previous DUIs and recently graduated from DUI court in Thurston county.

I'm willing to bet that he cheated his way through DUI court.

Depends on the situation. 100 on the highway is not the same as 100 on crowded narrow surface streets. 100 with. Someone who is fully paying attention to the roads is not the same as 100 with someone who has a loose grip on the wheel and is half turned to chat with you. Similarly 100 with a sober driver is not 100 with a dude who is shiatfaced. .

2013-12-31 10:25:42 AM
100 mph would be ball clenching insane anywhere other than an open highway.   Seeing as there were references to intersections and driveways we can assume it was not there.

Also 6 previous DUIs, wtf.  How does that happen?

noting that he had six previous DUIs and recently graduated from DUI court in Thurston county.

Why is someone with six DUIs allowed to drive a car? Frankly I'm blaming the courts at this point - sort of a "fool me once"-type situation. The dude's clearly demonstrated he's going to keep doing this shiat until he kills someone. But nah, let's just wait until that happens.

I think it's more the going 100mph WHILE BEING CHASED BY THE POLICE.

/Of course since they're both white, I'm sure the chase didn't end with the requisite tasering and beating, so maybe you're right.

painless42: I think it's more the going 100mph WHILE BEING CHASED BY THE POLICE.

Maybe. Very few cops vacation in Germany just to do 140 MPH on the Autobahn -- so there's that experience and skill level. Plus their cars may have the engines (and hopefully brakes) for that speed, but the vibration may turn the cup holder into a lethal flying object.or LFO.

If he is going 100mph while swerving wildly in and out of traffic and evading police, yeah, I would fear for my life.  Those situations often end very badly.  A crash that leads to serious injury; a shootout with police.  Is he going to swerve into oncoming traffic?  Blow through red lights and stop signs?  Lose control?

Except it sounds like he had a license. I don't know exactly what the point of "graduating from DUI court" is, but I figured people had to complete that to get their license back. And the article doesn't mention him driving with a suspended license, so I'm kinda thinking he had a legit one.  And yeah, people can drive with or without a license, but we don't have to  encourage these people to drive by telling them they can do so legally. We can also lock his ass up.

Oh, a business owner and a strong member of the community. I guess we let him go then. Can't ever interfere with a "job" creator. Anyone that owns a business should never be held to account by the rule of Law. Laws are for little people. People who don't own businesses, especially oil or telecom companies.

Of course, I wouldn't have gotten in the car in the first place, but...

100 mph is scary? I drive on the Autobahn at about 120, about as fast as my little Toyota will go and I get passed by Lambos and Ferraris that are probably close to 200, THAT is fast. Was this passenger Amish?

Well... Enjoy your future nosedive through a windshield, then. The high speed driving and flying through the air parts are very cool, but I'm told the sudden stop at the end of the ride totally sucks.

I swear if some chronic fu*k-up irresponsible douche damaged  my house or car doing what he was doing, he'd better pray the cops get to him first.  Not an ITG or even a guy.  I am just sick to death of stupid behavior by spoiled little puss*es.

I'd like to add that if you are in the habit of winding your crotch rocket up to 7000 R.P.M., doing the 0-60-0 fandango from stop sign to stop sign on residential neighborhood streets, the women staring at you don't want to give you sex.  They are wondering how long it's going to be before you plow into some kid who's dribbling a basketball across the crosswalk and are hoping you hit a tree, instead.  Most women aren't attracted to morons.

They need to regulate these car makers, as their products are unsafe. Nobody needs a car that goes more than 55 mph. They also should make it mandatory to install a regulator on older cars to limit them to the same speeds. These cars are potentially unsafe and people could be killed.

So do hammers.  Obviously.  Which, I suppose, is your point.  There is, however, a long and mind collection of evidence that supports the notion that if you misuse any given thing, it can be a weapon or harmful when incorrectly applied.

Yes, they're getting better.  It's a lot easier to customize your distortion by messing with physical characteristics of your signal chain than it is to write complicated DSP algorithms.

They're all regulated to 120MPH.

ebikes are regulated to 20mph, which is a mistake.  They're incredibly unsafe because they cut out at 20mph, interrupting the cyclist and shifting their attention.  Even cyclists who are paying attention to traffic and following proscribed laws and safe behaviors are troublesome; and being able to match speeds with urban traffic (25-30mph) is a lot safer than being in the way a lot.

It's not that bikes are unsafe because they do 15-20mph only; it's that ebikes have you peddling along nice and easy and then slam you with impossibly difficult pedaling force when you hit 20mph.  It feels unnatural and, beyond that, is just jarring--at least an unnatural climb in difficulty wouldn't be a sudden slam into a brick wall.

Technically regulating cars to 55mph would be a mistake.  Legally regulating them to 55mph was a mistake, which is why most highways have 60mph-65mph speed limits now.  It wasn't done because suspensions and tires couldn't handle it--they've improved over the years, but they were up to the task at the time.  It wasn't done for safety--drivers have gotten worse over the years, but they're still no worse off at 65mph than 55mph.  It was done because of some imaginary fuel savings from slowing the fark down and driving for longer.  A 2% savings that turned out to be 0.2%, which we could exceed easily by allowing hotter engines and more NOx output to get 10%+ lower fuel consumption.

Unfortunately, this often results in 116 dBA volume levels for ONE instrument in a room that has a 250 person cap and most of them are trying to hear the band that is being mixed at 97 dBA, but cant.  Cause all they hear is the guitar while they wince in pain.  Unless the band is booked in an arena, or the guitar player is essentially trying to relieve the audience of their hearing over 6kHz in the search of "his tone, man!", he's not entertaining people like that.  Pointing an amp at your ass and turning it up to pain level might have been seriously hip in 1971, but... well.

Most of those folks have speaker stacks taller than your house.  My 12AX7 into a single EL84, or 12AU7 into a single 12AX7 acting as a push-pull pair (completely different distortion), hooks up to a 70 watt single speaker but only pushes 1-5 watts.

Still requires earplugs when you're 5 feet away from it.

Driving 100 mph on an open road is one thing.  Driving 100 mph while drunk and blowing through intersections while you try to avoid the police is very different.  This guy had good reason to be worried.  FTFA "Police say the chase ended after Goodman crashed into several cars and a home before being cornered in a church parking lot."
