It now additionally prohibits the use of electronic cigarettes in all areas where smoking is prohibited.

Way to defeat the purpose, there.

~~"It works about as well as patches, which is to say it really doesn't work," he said.

Really?  Well then why does NYC run ads espousing the benefits of patches and gum, along with a number where you can receive free patches and gum?  Also, the number is added on all your "I have a hole in my neck, I have no teeth, I lost my toes from smoking" ads.

Dufuq Bloomie? GTFO out already.  You overstayed your welcome by 4 years.

I'm not defending smoking, but for farks sake, at least stay consistent...

Actually, Bloomberg IS a liberal.

That is, of course, if you use the conservative definition of "liberal," which is essentially "anybody who is not staunchly, absolutely and uncompromisingly 100% True Conservative™." On the other hand, if you use any other definition for the word "liberal," then chances are that you would agree that Bloomie is not a liberal.

I've used e-cigs on and off for about a year. So far, no one indoors or outdoors has ever complained.
I get a fix, they don't have to smell it.
What's the logic behind trying to ban something that really doesn't bother anybody?

davidphogan: The RIchest Man in Babylon: Too his credit, Bloomberg has managed to make both liberals and conservatives hate him, so, there's that.

Well, after his two terms were up, he had a private meeting with the city council, and asked them to vote to extend his term limit to 3.  It was underhanded and wrong, as the public did not get to vote on it. The council actually voted to NOT allow the public to vote on it. Basically, as the teabaggers like to say he was a '"Usurper".  Except in this case, it was 100% accurate.  His main cohort in all this was Christine Quinn, who thought she'd get the nod for mayor next election.  It turned out to (rightfully) bite her in the ass.

Anyways, last election, the Dems ran Turner, and all but admitted defeat against Bloomie from the outset.  Turner wasn't even really shopped around prior to the elections, and he ended up losing (by a very small margin, shockingly).

And that, is how we ended up with king bloomie.

I must correct myself, it was Thompson in the 2008 mayoral elections on the Dem ticket.

Turner is who took over Weiners seat.

Got the names confused.

Not sure you can apply a tobacco tax to a product with no tobacco in it.

These threads are always a great example of how ingratitude knows no party bounds.  I suppose people who don't know what's good for them deserve our pity.

Echo0: If I read that correctly then how is inhaling a steam stimulant different than drinking a liquid stimulant, say coffee? My GED in WebMD is lacking.

Not really sure, but it might have something to do with the fact the "steam" gets blown back into the air that everyone else is breathing. I have no idea if that might affect others, and I think there haven't been any conclusive studies done yet, but perhaps that's what they're reacting to? I have friends who run model trains and use small fake steam generators to make them look cool, but they end up getting a sort of sticky but invisible residue everywhere over time - it disperses pretty far -, but that might be dependent on what they use in the steam, and e-cigs might have no such problems for all I know.

Honestly, I'd fully support the government funding some real studies into the effects of e-cigs on both users and (more importantly) others nearby to really figure out how to classify them, and maybe having some oversight of e-cig vapor ingredients if need be. Until then, banning or not banning them is pretty damn arbitrary.

How about people get to decide for themselves what's "good for them?"
I was brought up to believe if it's legal and it doesn't directly affect you, what a consenting adult does with their life is none of your goddamn business.

I thought the problem was all those additives and tar and adjuncts that people inhale in order to get the nicotine delivered.

The politicians are addicted to the revenue the cigarettes generate.

NY gets 5$ a pack.

If only there was some sort of electronic device that makes the mind think they are getting that revenue.........you know so they can break their addiction.

Yes.....considering the taxes are raised in order to balance the states budget.....I'm sure their are lots of contractors and lobbyists who depend on that revenue.

The vaporizer works.  I have had it  a week and have gone from a pack and a half a day to a pack lasting me 4 days.  If I used it every time I wanted a drag I could probably quit because I don't really like the taste, yet it gives me the occasional kick I need.  Probably will this weekend.  The wife told me my skin smells better.  I have also noticed that I do not wheeze like I did when I lay down and my breathing is considrabbly better.

I may take this 4 day weekend to totally try to quit.  It has at least given me enough confidence to do that.

"Steam" in model trains is actually oil with a low smoke point.  E-cig vapor is essentially sugar water with pure nicotine mixed in.
