Looking at that list I'm not seeing much of value being lost.

2013-12-30 07:55:02 PM
I guess I'm going to have to watch Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo before its taken off.

2013-12-30 07:58:53 PM
If this keeps up and they don't add anything soon there will be nothing left to stream.  Oh wait, nevermind, titles are constantly coming and going.

2013-12-30 08:00:33 PM
This makes no sense at all to me.  Why take these movies off Netflix?  Do the studios think that if they take "Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot" off Netflix, when I notice it's gone I'm gonna run out and buy the DVD so I can keep watching it?

/yes
//yes, they do

I hope the asinine tag is for the movie studios, not Netflix. Otherwise, subby is el stupido.

Nothing much was lost.  But they could just buy more diskspace and not be buttholes about it, just sayin....

My guess is that there are so many streaming services now that they know they can get someone like Amazon Prime, Hulu or HBO Go to overpay for them

Their licensing deal is probably expiring and they don't think it's worth the cost of renewing it.

So..I should subscribe to Netflix why?

I'd say TMLO was in mourning, but as he's proven he OWNS it, I'm pretty sure he's okay.

Pretty much.  Though it has to be said that Netflix's licensing decisions haven't historically been entirely sane.

You are probably right, but it's not like customers are "breaking down the doors" so to speak to get their hands on "The Skulls."

Yeah, I'm cutting off cable when I move and going to all-streaming again.  I realized that I only have the TV on for sound, most of the time anyway.  I'll stream my Netflix/Crackle/Hulu, listen to music, read, do my needlework, teach myself to knit, maybe - I always wanted a 12-foot Dr. Who scarf...

The day that Street Fighter was removed from Netflix is the greatest day of your life, but for me, it was Tuesday.

I stopped paying the shell game on demand game with these sites just torrent my shiat..   This summer I went to watch a show that had 12 seasons on Netflix and for no reason 6 of the seasons were removed...  They do this shiat constantly.. Hulu, Netflix, Amazon..  fark em all..

2013-12-30 10:37:26 PM
Glad I watched Foxy Brown last week. Hell, I'm happy to watch Pam Grier anytime.

2013-12-30 10:37:37 PM
Last time I had netflix the only good movie I could find was Troll Hunter. I don't think I'll be getting netflix again. Glad I saw Troll Hunter though.

Requiem For a Dream is on the list.  That's a pretty awesome movie.  That said, it's the only one of the list I could get really upset over.

Good thing we still have Zombie Ass: Toilet of the Dead on Netflix.

Ronin is on that list.  So is Requiem for a Dream and Remo Williams (ok, but hey it is fun)

What really bums me out is that my New Years day "Stop or My Mom Will Shoot" party has to be totally rethought from the ground up....

That is exactly what I'm doing. Been working on my new scarf for about a week while watching James Bond movies. Got about two feet so far.

Which pattern are you using?  While looking to see how hard it was, I've seen lots of them.  I had no idea there were so many "official" ones even.  As I understand it, the scarf is done entirely in garter stitch. But there is one purporting to be the original BBC pattern that says it's straight knitting...

They have to pay royalties back to the studios to have these available on their service. They can monitor traffic pretty easily and if something isn't being watched, why keep paying to have it on there? End or beginning of a year is a pretty typical contract expiration or renewal time.

/tried watching the 60's Dark Shadows once...for all the hype and hoopla I've seen about it over the years, it was pretty dull.

2013-12-30 11:05:12 PM
I think the important point is that there was barely anything worth streaming on Netflix before them yanking those shows.  Or it there was, it had been in rotation long enough that it had already been seen by anyone who wanted to watch it.

Not that I blame Netflix, really.  If the studios think there's even a glimmer of a chance that a property will sell, even if it's to the $3.99 bin at Wal-Mart, they're going to refuse to license it for streaming.

Seriously.  Netflix has X amount they can spend on content.  If we want them to keep adding new content they have to get rid of something, especially as more competitors come along and drive up the cost of content.

2013-12-30 11:18:29 PM
I just checked, and all of those titles are available on "other" sites...

Yep.. I have one private tracker I use..

Anyone who uses a pubilc tracker now a days without a VPN or Seedbox is an idiot.  I have access to both and still avoid public trackers like the plague.

I'm just glad I watched Street Fighter when I did. (Seriously.) Most of the movie is awful, but every scene with Raul Julia is, of course, wonderful. Glad I finally got to see his magnificence in action.

I still wonder if private trackers are any safer or just not big enough to attract attention.  I've used a private television tracker (don't do music or movies) for ten years or so and never had a problem, but I feel like it's just a lot less popular than most, so it slides under the radar.
