Fark It: Lube up for the tax man?

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD... how the f*ck am I going to pay the taxes on that?

2013-12-30 04:28:42 PM
I couldn't afford the insurance or the taxes on that, so I would take the dealer's offer when I pick it up. But if I could afford it, I would like it.

(One of my Bosses actually has one like it complete with massage chair.)

she'd better sell that baby. i'm guessing that she'd wreck it before she got out of the driveway.

2013-12-30 04:44:26 PM
well, she did win 10K (which will get taxed as well).  her only hope is to win the showcase showdown and sell off that crap to afford the car.

with a gar-lic a-roma
that could level Ta-coma

2013-12-30 04:55:52 PM
In Tacoma, she'll be much smarter to take the dealer's offer.  That thing will be gone within 5 minutes of parking it in a public place.

2013-12-30 05:35:22 PM
Unless she's Danica Patrick, she probably shouldn't be driving that car.

Plus, yeah, the insurance and taxes are gonna be a biatch.

Pretty myuch my thought... most people won't have the money for taxes on that, so... I'd be pretty sad.

It seems like winning on game shows is actually a pretty crappy thing since most people can't swing the taxes on any big ticket prizes they win. At least if it's cash, they still end up with something.

Jerry Brown and Obama want their money. Sell the car and shoes to pay your $80,000 due.

True, but if the car is something less expensive than an Audi, couldn't you get a car loan? Even at the top marginal tax rate, it's a car at a heavy discount.

2013-12-30 05:55:48 PM
worse is winning a trip. you can't transfer the tickets so you can't sell it and it always goes out of lax for the air travel. with the stupid claims hotels have for the value of their rooms you have a $6000 5 night vacation to florida with coach air.

2013-12-30 06:00:20 PM
k for an Audi? Pass. And what's with the fanaticism the studio audience is infected with? It's like they're at a Super Bowl watching their team move downfield for the winning drive in the final seconds, fer chrissake.

//yeah, I know. Different priorities. They still look weird though.

I swear I typed 157k.

Anybody have a clue what the dealer offer would be on that? It would be cool to get a check for 100k out of it then turn that around and either invest the money or buy a new car.

2013-12-30 06:06:53 PM
I sure wouldn't jump in the passenger seat.

Just gimme the keys, Drew.  I'm driving out of here.  Send me a check for the rest of my winnings.

2013-12-30 06:12:22 PM
I had a teacher that won a showcase showdown on TPIR back in the late 80's.  At the time, winners could trade for prizes of equal value, or simply take the cash option.  He'd won a hot tub that he traded for cash (he'd already had one installed) and used that money to pay for the taxes on the other prizes (I think his big ticket item was a trip, IIRC).  He did keep the full set of Snap-On tools, though.

2013-12-30 06:13:33 PM
I would have accepted "Kick Drew Carey in the nuts"

2013-12-30 06:15:14 PM
It's a cool car but I don't want some new exotic car. All I really want is love and I can't win that on Price is Right. I can only rent it on Backpage.

All the guys on Top Gear seemed to think it was one of the best driver's cars of all time. Seems to be an interesting mix of wild, refined, and practical that you dont normally see in a supercar. That said you never go with a convertible supercar, you lose a lot of the qualities that make it special.

FTA: Drew Carey, who is known for having some expensive ass cars on TPIR since he took over,

well since old saggy balled bob was a chevy, ford, dodge man, of course when you put in foreign cars, shiat gets expensive.

/At the start of Drew's tenure: Heres a Honda, built in Ohio!!!!!

Do these people who win the cars also have their tax bill for said car paid for as well, or do they get "Oprah"'d?

Nope. Nope and nope.

State and federal taxes on all winnings... If you choose to accept all winnings.

/you can say 'no' to accepting each particular prize you don't want or can't afford to pay the taxes.
//but free shipping to her local dealer.

I was on the Price is Right in 1994 and won $7,000 (plus some other nick-nacks) playing PLINKO.  Best day of my life.

All I can add is that I miss TPiR in the late 70's, when the production team was always careful to choose attractive, braless women in the oh-so-air-conditioned studio, just for the victory jumping-around.

I want to go on that show. I'm going to dress up as batman and when they pick me I'm going to take door #3.

The Showcase Showdown is the 3 contestants spinning The Big Wheel. The Showcase is the two contestants bidding at the end.

My boss has an S5 with the V8. It's sweet as hell, and super-fast (tops out at around 185). What an awesome car...and it ain't even close to the R8. Audi makes some really nice rides these days...

Done in two. This really was no prize at all.

That really happened? Today?

I saw it on TV and assumed it was from several years ago.

I should have realized from the price of the car.

So TV history happened and I was thinking:   "I hope she wins. She reminds me of Eddie Izzard." My Mom was right though, somebody should show her how to do her eye make-up so she doesn't look like a transvestite comedian.

Sad but true. He does do his make-up better than many women, it is true. Eddie Izzard quote: "They don't have much make-up in the army, do they? They only have that nighttime look and that's a bit slapdash, isn't it?"

I would take a loan from my 401k to pay the taxes then sell the vehicle as quickly as possible.  Even if I only got 140k I'm still 140k ahead.  I'm not sure why that isn't "a prize".

If someone paid your tax bill on said car, I think that would also be taxable :P

// basically, when someone puts cash and/or prizes into your pocket, uncle sam wants his cut from YOU.

Depends on where she lives, too. The taxes are one thing. But if she's from Buttfark, America where there are no nearby Audi dealers or service repair shops that are certified to work on Audis and have parts for it in stock -- she gets to look forward to incredibly expensive maintenance fees in addition to the taxes by having to go to a major city to have it worked on.

Hope so although I read an article online a few months that suggested that at least for the California state taxes you have to pay them before you get any prizes.

You guys sound like a bunch of whining pansies. It can't be THAT difficult to come up with a few thousand bucks to pay what you need to pay in order to take possession of the car (maybe sell your existing car?), then sell/trade the new ride for whatever works for you. If all else fails, you can make payments to the IRS. Or, as someone above noted, you can use the car as collateral for a loan to cover the taxes and even insurance.

Sure, but state tax rates are generally much lower than federal rates, even in California. I hear states that don't have sales tax, though (like Oregon), have higher income tax rates.

Actually if she keeps her foot out of it, it's a pretty docile car.

My neighbor has a V10 one, and it is pretty reserved under normal conditions.

If you sink your foot however...

I thought winnings were taxed higher than normal income.

For some reason I thought the kid who won two cars wound up paying like 80% of their worth in taxes and had to sell everything to settle with CA/Uncle.

I never got the excitement on some of those showcase showdowns for the trips to Mexico or Tahiti or what not. Give me the cars, trucks, bikes or boats, or hell even aplliances. Not some farkin waste of a $10,000 trip to "don't drink the water world", that last 1 or 2 weeks where I may get killed converting dollars for beeds.

2013-12-30 07:41:28 PM
So...why doesn't The Price is Right pay the tax along with the car?

Is that one of those forbidden questions only Paul Lynde could have answered?

2013-12-30 07:54:18 PM
Drew Carey makes some good money doing that show, but I have no respect for him now.
