In the southern hemisphere, it's spelled backwards.

You mean the ship that contains gwobal warming scientists is stuck in the ice?  That ship?

2013-12-30 06:26:09 PM
They're just breaking the ice.

2013-12-30 06:27:59 PM
That's white.  Gwobal warming causes more ice, less ice, low temps, high temps.  I better white a check to the gubmint.  They'll fix it just like they fixed health care!

I'm going to call it now.

The ship is lost.  They have just a few weeks until the weather gets even worse and it looks like their best window for recovery is closing fast.

They'll salvage and fly out what they can along with the crew and the ship will be slowly chewed up by the shifting ice until it's torn open and sent to the bottom.

12/29/13, 1:49pm "Made a joke to comrade that I thought I saw the monster Frankenstein on an ice floe. Tourist on board corrected me that the monster was not called Frankenstein, but was the name of his creator.

Should we be stuck here long enough for rations to run out, the first person to be eaten will be that know-it-all tourist. авторучить."

gotta wonder with there being tourists onboard if there was a itinerary involved and the captain had a obligation to try to get these tourists to a certain area during the cruise and he made the wrong choices about safety/unhappy customers/unhappy main office/profits/needing help, etc...

2013-12-30 06:34:54 PM
Why did it take so long?  This must be the only "dry" ship in the Russian merchant marine.  By "dry", I mean not into the emergency vodak when they castoff from port. But not to worry, there's always the "emergency" emergency vodak rations and the "this is a real emergency" ration of vodak, plus the crew members private vodak stash.

It was mostly researchers if I'm not mistaken.  Not that that would necessarily invalidate your theory.

You left out the part about who's going to pay for the ship, the fuel costs for the ice breakers, helicopter rides, etc..  Any guesses?  Anyone?

Probably Lloyd's of London, or some other mercantile insurer.

I thought there was a Fark filter for vodka that changed it to vodak.  The filter does work on headlines doesn't it?

So are these people going to have to pay the millions that it takes to rescue them or are tax payers somehow going to get stuck with that bill?

Probably falls under some nautical back scratching rules.

// someday, your ship will be in need of rescue (because the sea is a fickle biatch sometimes).

It's just become what I call it... Because, strangely, that's just what it's called now, and furthermore.

This is actually a pretty ominous sign. The emergency vodka rations on Russian ships are only dispensed in times of grave danger, when a situation is so dire that it risks sobering the crew up from their regular daily vodka rations.

When they report the crew's vodka has been cut to a daily ration of 1 liter per man, it will be time for the families to begin radioing their goodbyes.

Dunno, but the searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay if they'd put fifteen more miles behind her.
