I Like Shiny Things: However, I can afford moderately priced chains and local places 6 times a week. Its good food for a fair price. Applebees, Olive Garden, Outback, Longhorn, Chilis, Ruby Tuesdays.

For a $50 meal, those places are YUMMY OVERPRICED, and anyone who says otherwise is cray-cray. has actually eaten good food

.

When I've been on 2-week business trips and been forced by the rest of the team to go to those places 13 nights in a row, I'm ready to kill somebody.

You can get really, really good ethnic (Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Indian, Italian, Levant/Mediterranean, Eastern European) that's half the price, more interesting, and a hell of a lot healthier.

I used to want to go to times square for new years at least once, but since NY went all police state and caged everyone in I think ill pass on it.

I Like Shiny Things: Applebees actually has very good business model, delivering quality food for their target market while nailing the hell out of their price points.

Farkers love to complain about it because:

1: they can't afford it
2. they have to leave the house for it
3. It is successful. (ask your WOW friends what that word means, but not during a raid!)

I assume you work for Applebee's.

yelp has transformed my business trips. No longer do we settle for what's nearby and familiar. Now we can go to delicious local places we never would have found in a brief stay.

And often cheaper too. Gotta pay for those national tv ads somehow.

I like having a nice, fancy, NYE.

Other than that, though, I am staying home to drink.  It's just like St. Patrick's Day...all of the amateur drinkers decide to go pro on the same night, and it's a mess.

LeroyBourne: theflatline: My coworkers gave me a gift certificate for Applebees for my birthday.  They lady who bought is incensed that I still have not used it yet.

My old boss gave me a gc for there too.  It was very specific that you can't use it on booze, only food.

are you sure it just wasn't a coupon? that seems farked up, he gave applebees his cash and they gave him back a gift card that can't even be used on the same items as the cash he just gave them?

So when people from out of town visit, do you take them to Applebee's to impress them? Since I assume you can afford it.

Um, no, I wouldn't do that. It is not that type of restaurant, but I think you are such a clever guy that you already knew that?

I'd actually take them to Berns steakhouse, since you asked.

Applebee's isn't a 'impress the potential clients' type of place, since you asked.

Just a heads up for you, not everyone picks restaurants to impress others.

I eat out 6 nites a week. Sunday is reserved for whatever I put on the smoker.

I'd love to eat at Berns 6 nites a week, but that place is at least 200 for 2. I wish I could afford that 6 times a week , but I cannot. I'm sorry that doesn't impress you. I wish I had a killer IT admin job. Then I could only eat at gourmet restaurants like you.

You sound like you have high blood pressure. Might wanna cut back on the sodium.

Headso: I always thought it was weird how these chain restaurants can exist at time square, the rent must be insanely high and then you'd figure tourists would be ashamed to eat there knowing NY is supposed to be a food mecca.

Olive Garden and Red Lobster always have disclaimers on tv that say prices higher in times square and Hawaii

Sybarite: The party runs from 8 p.m. to midnight

So you're saying I'm going to have to drink fast.

I wondered about that.  Shouldn't it run till at least 1am?  When they turn up the lights and announce last call before the ball drops, you know you've got a crappy party.
