"[Shanahan has] the same winning percentage as two of his predecessors, Steve Spurrier and Jim Zorn."

Maybe, just maybe, the problem isn't the coach?

Wow, I did NOT see this one coming.

They should have fired him last season when he pretty much ruined RG3's career by putting him in a nearly meaningless game hobbling on a hurt leg.

He made up for that by pulling him from three meaningless games this season, while he was healthy.

Meh, I figured that's what Shanahan wanted.

Mr. Zorn didn't come off as a complete cesspool every day he was with the Washington Snyders.

Refresh my memory. Was he the coach who wasn't allowed to call plays?

Snyder's going to have a fun time finding a new coaching staff.  Maybe he can get someone from the high school level.

It raises an interesting question. What current college head coach or NFL coordinator would even want that job?
I'm rooting for Lane Kiffin. He hasn't fallen up in a while.

What would Kiffin's shelf life in DC be? Has a head coach ever been fired during preseason? That would be an epic train wreck.

Toward the end, Zorn was stripped of play calling duties by Snyder (you know, the guy with the money but no football experience whatsoever) in an effort to get Zorn to quit.  Zorn stuck around, and got some small measure of revenge by making some ridiculous decisions, including the infamous and disastrous swinging gate play, immediately after which the cameras caught Zorn grinning on the sidelines.

I had never seen that play before so I just watched the video. Instead of the jump ball pass, why not just throw a screen, with 6 guys blocking...?

Remember, he HAD the ability and it was forcibly removed by Snyder in an attempt to get him to quit.

Another one bites the dust

In a perfect world Snyder would go after an honest-to-goodness GM, hire Russ Grimm and some qualified assistants, and then have a stroke and go into a coma so that the football people can do what football people do when there isn't a narcissistic wannabe football-guy owner looking over their shoulders.

Dennis Allen isn't going anywhere. He did a great job given the cards in his deck. He's a West Coast Rex Ryan.

2013-12-30 12:09:05 PM
Allen is probably gonna be out in Oakland. /my bet.

2013-12-30 12:09:50 PM
I don't think DAvis Jr is ready to cull Reggie and Dennis yet. They have at least one more year. They went in and everyone knew it was gonna be a multi-year drudgery to get out from under that zombie Al did to them.
