I LOVE my induction cooktop.

The only thing a gas stove can do that my induction can't is roast peppers.  Other than that, the induction is more efficient, easier to clean, and was easier to install.

Meh, I've been using an induction heater for years to heat bearings for installation.

/don't get an analog watch near the thing. you will not know what time it is.

Couldn't you just link to the induction cooker infomercial that plays after 2am?

They do the same thing......

Is it really an "experiment" if the results are obvious and predictable?  Outside of elementary school science fairs, I mean.

/ruined a perfectly good pan.

Have an induction cooktop stove and really like it. It has loads of power combined with precise control and very rapid temp changes. Also safer for kids since the cooktop doesn't heat up unless there's a pan on it and the top doesn't get as hot as a normal one would.

But I guess subby is to dense to understand the demonstration.

they could have used half[or quarter?] of a stove. that way the pot wouldn't have needed to be cut in half.

Funny you say that.  Rolex made the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Milgauss with the express purpose of withstanding intense magnetic fields (1000 gauss) like those found in power-plants and scientific research without effecting the watch movement.

I think the headline disregarded the fact it was a proof of concept. I get the headline, but think the intent was misplaced. I think a ridiculously optimistic view on half a meal fits better. Like, the new way to double your diets potential. know what I mean?

You forgot to mention how the gas stove still works when the power is out.  If you payed any attention to MI's weather lately, that is a main selling point for gas stoves.  I will stick with my gas stove.

Was it a good idea for the guy at the end to be laying his ring finger on the stovetop? Or does induction not work that way?

I'm actually curious--electricity is just some kind of wizardry to me, so I don't understand any of that stuff.

it's actually not electric, as has been pointed out. the stove is powered by a small singularity suspended under the cook top. sort of like a warp drive, but it just makes heat.

That's why you have a propane grill or burner for backup.
