crab66: Of course, he's a lot meaner and more ruthless than even GWB ever even thought of being. Time to roll the tanks through Chechnya, I guess.

He can't, not yet.

If he rolls the tanks through Chechnya before the Olympics, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan will have a medal bonanza.  Other than turn Sochi into an armed camp, there's not a lot that Putin can do.

Most Olympic tourists have an allergic reaction to domestic uprisings. Putin may have to bus in Russians to fill the grandstands.  Talk about an easy target.

It's quite troubling that the venues were built with underpaid and unpaid imported labor without much oversight.  The whole place could be rigged to blow.

They pull off something like the Beslan Crisis during or even at the Olympics and there won't be a single Chechen or Dagestani left alive in Russia by this time next year. Putin will make sure of it.

My hubby just flew back to Russia today to spend nearly a month visiting his family. Yes, Russia is a huge country. Yes, he's not even in Volgograd. Still don't like it.

A good guess would be the Caucasian ones.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chechnia

They have some very good reasons to be a little annoyed with the Russians.

Did you know that many typically non-conspiratorial analysts believe Putin came to power by blowing up innocent Russian apartment blocks?  There's actually quite a lot of evidence supporting the allegations.

The man who made the allegations was poisoned with something that could only have been sanctioned by the highest levels of the Russian government.

I think my biggest problem with the idea of Grand Conspiracies is how they require a significant number of super competent people working together able to control wide spread events involving many people while at the same time all of them having a grand ability to keep long term secrets. Have you met people?

Then much of this tale would confirm your theory.  It's not a story of a flawless conspiracy, but of coverups after bungling.

After the initial bombing, Russian apartment block dwellers became quite vigilant.  Some found suspicious men lurking around their building late at night.  Having chased them off, they found the basement packed with bags of explosives.  The apartment block was evacuated, an APB put out for the men.

The men were captured by the local police and were found to be FSB agents.  This happened.

Hey now. The wimminfolks need to know that they aren't just doing housework when they are sweeping that kitchen floor but that they may be training for some future Olympics as well. Gotta keep that dream alive you know...

2013-12-30 03:22:50 AM
I simply do not understand why this happened. Why were these people killed? School shootings, abortion clinic and church bombings make more sense than this kind of random murder. Is the sole purpose of this bombing to cause mass fear, confusion, and panic? Is this the reason "terrorism" has such power over the minds of the citizens afflicted?Because there is no one person responsible, there is no one group targeted, their acts of violence seem random, and without reason? I don't understand, and I think that's kinda the point.

So even after Snowden reveals the NSA conspiracy to hoover up all the info they can on whoever they want including the heads of other countries, and incliding the Fark link below of the Der Spiegel story revealing how far the NSA will go, you still think a "Grand Conspiracy" is not feasable?

Yeah, after all the Orwellian security measures and fearmongering they've done about security for these Olympics, the last thing they want is some extremely public acts of violence by a nebulous, vaguely defined group of villains to justify all that creepy, expensive extra security.

Not so much.   The Russians leveled Grozny to the ground with carpet bombing.

The Russians still occupy Chechnia.   There were many more Chechens killed than Russians.

The Chechens have a lot more reason to be annoyed with the Russians than vice versa.  There's strong evidence that much of the terrorism attributed to the Chechins was actually the work of the Russian security services.

Yes. The first interactions between Chechnya and Russia happened in our lifetimes. I forgot about that.

ImpendingCynic: For it to be a valid comparison against GWB, Putin would have to take revenge on Finland.

That would only be true if it were the case that the Finnish government sanctioned an attempted assassination on Putin's father, who, by the way, would also have had to have been the former President of the United States.

a spy agency keeping secrets from the general public, and the spy agencies of other countries isn't a "grand conspiracy". It's what we intended them to do when they were created by our elected reps.

you can not like what they've supposedly done, but that doesn't make it a conspiracy or outside the law.
