Wow, this thing that happened 13 years ago sure is newsworthy. Let's write an article about it.

I guess NPR's "we're not biased, we swear" queue has been backed up for a while.

So, the University's Marketing Department photoshopped photos to include attractive minority students in photos where there were none, at a rate proportional to their representation in the University population as a whole.  I bet they photoshopped the zits off of some kids, too.  And maybe added some more attractive kids here and there.

Sorry, I'm having a hard time dredging up outrage over this.

These brochures are clearly biased: they don't have pictures of drunken idiots raping women on the cover.

That's because the picture was of the fans at the game, and not the players.

20 year's ago BGSU had the same black man in four different photos.   They must have followed him around that day to get the shots.  No photoshop then.   So I don't know if this is newsworthy unless it's poorly done.

Skin colour != diversity.   Maybe some day academia will realise true diversity comes from diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and thoughts, but definitely not skin colour.

False diversity? Man, you could fire a 21 gun salute of grape shot through our great court at any time of the year (except exam periods) and not take out a single domestic student.

School district I worked for did up a brochure at one point, including the obligatory minority shots. They were all rather pleased with the outcome until I asked, "Why is the only black kid holding a basketball?"

Compared to FOX they don't have an ounce of bias*.

*when compared to FOX that is, it's worth mentioning twice.

You have something of a point, but skin color is definitely a part of it, at least in the land of non-extraneous vowels. But it's hard to get a lot of your ideas through in a picture, so they have to go with color.

Well its part of trying to shame colleges into taking more minorities when all that qualify attend but schools are forced to show examples which lead to bullshiat like this shiat.

I was going to say, just got out of UConn last year and a solid 1/3 of the students were fresh off the boat from Asia.

I guess they weren't satisfied waiting for outsourcing to take our jobs, they had to go right to the source.

Actually, foreign students usually pay full tuition... so those "jerb-stealrs" underwrote a significant part of the discount most domestic students received on their tuition.

/that's partly why foreign students are so heavily recruited

Co-ed university I worked at was down the street from an all-female college. We got a call every few years requesting a handful of male students-- of diverse backgrounds-- to come to their campus for recruitment photo shoots.

/young men hang out here! Truly!

I am a Hispanic male and I was on the cover of my lily-white private college's catalog in the 90's. I had no idea until a friend of mine pointed out that was me in the printed denim shirt talking to a prof on the steps of the English building.

There's a real easy test to see if you are biased. If you think that ANY news source is unbiased, or that some are more or less biased than others, then you are biased.

When I was looking for schools, this is what interested me in approximately this order:

1. Tier 1 school in/near large city
2. Amount of financial aid available
3. Women
4. Greek system (i.e. parties)

As far as I could have cared, diversity meant having more than two kinds of beer in the fridge.

This is actually a real picture. I saw an article somewhere with the black guy in the photo. It's just weird lighting or something.
