I don't get why anyone is surprised.  To paraphrase Conan I think:  Wait, you mean to tell me that a bearded man who lives with his kinfolk in a Louisiana swamp doesn't have progressive views on homosexuality???

"I understand people having different opinions about whether A&E's decision to suspend him was the right call," says Barron. "What is so hard to comprehend is the desire of some on the right to defend the substance of what he said."

They've listened to their conservative brethren badmouthing their entire existence for decades, and this is the straw that broke the camel's back?

Doubtful.

For a homophobic clan, they're all suspiciously on-trend for current gay style.

"Gay conservative". Isn't that a bit like being a "Jewish Nazi"?  American conservatism has ALWAYS been primarily about disliking anyone who's not a heterosexual white male.

If it walks like a duck...

Hating gays and African Americans doesn't make you edgy. It makes you pathetic. Any gay conservative who is shocked by this outcome is an idiot.

I'm not sure why a news organization would ask the question.  But then I don't watch reality shows ever, so I've been ignoring the topic.

I get the impression they're trying desperately to convince themselves that since all conservatives aren't homophobes they can appeal to people's compassion and enact change.  Trouble is the leadership doesn't budge.

Gay conservatives (by the modern American definition of conservatism) demonstrate an even lower standard of critical thinking skills than a regular conservative.

The thing is, though, I  don'tthink that most conservatives were defending "the substance" of what Robertson said.  It was like how Sarah Palin admitted she hadn't read the actual article with his comments.  They immediately made it into "Duck Dynasty guy is being censored for expressing his sincerely held Christian beliefs!" and tried to  not get into what he actually said.

because of reasons..
1. self loathing
2. you care more about money than acceptance
3. you desire political acceptance from your conservative friends and family members more than you desire acceptance for being who you are.
4. "they're my kinfolk.  They don't really mean nothing by it when they say I'm an un-American pedophile who is going to burn in hell.  They are just expressing themselves. "

This is the liberal mantra that you must repeat, repeat, repeat in 2014 and 2016:

"CONSERVATIVES ARE ALL RACIST WHITE MALES WHO HATE HATE HATE ALL PEOPLE OF OTHER RACE AND ETHNICITY AND ESPECIALLY WOMEN. Therefore you must reject all conservative ideas as hateful and racist in nature."

I wouldn't say that's true. But, I would say conservatives do seem rather hasty to defend and court the votes of those who are prone to hate.

I just imagine the Log Cabin Republicans checking in at the RNC and seeing this atop the party's platform for "Renewing America's Families"
"The institution of marriage is the foundation of civil society. Its success as an institution will determine our success as a nation. It has been proven by both experience and endless social science studies that traditional marriage is best for children. Children raised in intact married families are more likely to attend college, are physically and emotionally healthier, are less likely to use drugs or alcohol, engage in crime, or get pregnant outside of marriage. The success of marriage directly impacts the economic well-being of individuals. Furthermore, the future of marriage affects freedom. The lack of family formation not only leads to more government costs, but also to more government control over the lives of its citizens in all aspects. We recognize and honor the courageous efforts of those who bear the many burdens of parenting alone, even as we believe that marriage, the union of one man and one woman must be upheld as the national standard, a goal to stand for, encourage, and promote through laws governing marriage."

Do those Republicans stop for a moment, look at each other, realize they've spent a lot of time and money to get themselves to this convention and wonder why? Or are they too distracted by the fact their Grindr apps are going off like they're in the director's cut of "Aliens?"

2013-12-29 09:27:41 AM
Why all the focus on the stuff he said about gays? In that same interview he lamented the loss of Jim Crow laws. I know people who were raised in that culture, who still refer to black men as boy, who aren't that bad.

While there was absolutely nothing decent about his comments about gays, I found his comments on blacks to be much more obviously insulting.  I mean, I realize some people are painfully ignorant, but how could he make a comment like that without going for "maximumtrolling.jpg".

I also find it somewhat curious that the mainstream MSM liberal media chose to focus on the comments regarding gays, rather than the patently ignorant, insulting, and asinine comment about blacks.  Oh, and how they've ignored the subsequent revelation where Phil talked about how awesome marrying underage girls would be.

Why would any American be a Democrat? Why support a party that hates them, I'll never understand.

Seriously though, you're wondering why someone wouldn't line up behind a failed ideology just because you and all you friends told them that the non-failed ideology hates them? Maybe they got tired of suffering the "success" of Democrats.

Dude, it's awesome.  You never have to read ANYTHING.  There's FOX, so all of your news is conveniently packaged and repeated ad nauseum, so you don't have to come up with any of your own ideas.  And if anyone questions you, just start shouting at them to demonstrate the seriousness of your convictions, and you win!  Recommended phrases include "Jesus" in response to any scientific argument and "Libtards" to most everything else.

"I understand people having different opinions about whether A&E's decision to suspend him was the right call," says Barron. "What is so hard to comprehend is the desire of some on the right to defend the substance of what he said."

The religious right is working overtime to assure their membership that their bigoted views are still held by the majority of Americans, which is a tough sell when popular TV shows sack people for expressing those views.
