Heh. Maybe they'll follow the outline I posted here a few weeks ago: Various superheros unite to fight the alien menace Superman who almost destroyed whatever-the-city Superman works in.
/Not a DC fan, obviously.

There is only one Green Lantern and that is Ryan Farking Reynolds.

Denzel is going to play Kyle Rayner?  That's...odd.

Denzel will likely bring in the box office, but I would rather have seen someone like Chiwetel Ejiofor in the role. He just seems more John Stewart to me.

Don't know much about GL outside of the movie, but he seems the only JL member who could credibly take Superman down.

I've liked Reynolds' work ever since Two Guys and a Girl so I've never really got all the hate that went his way.  That being said his strength is comedy and he's the sort of actor whose history will prevent you from taking him entirely seriously in an earnest role.

It's definitely DCAU influence, but I just think of John Stewart as primary Green Lantern as opposed to Hal Jordan.

Plus I can't help but feel like Hal Jordan is just kind of too dumb to take seriously.

I'm probably messing it up a bit, but in Cartoon Network's CG Green Lantern Series there is an episode where (nearly) all the Lanterns are called together to stop the Anti Monitor. Hal shows up and sees Guy Gardner and asks him who is watching Earth. Guy tells him about the new guy named "John Stewart."

Hal, who has been off earth for a while looks at him shocked and responds "The talk show host?"

Wouldn't it be important to come up with a plot first before shoehorning half a dozen DC heroes into it? Marvel did things very organically, introducing characters on a per-need basis over the span of like five films, so the Avengers got the introductions out of the way and jumped right to the action. This film is like "well, we gotta have the Flash, and Aquaman, and Wonder Woman, but only Superman and Batman are getting solo movies." That's going to feel very crowded.

John Stewart is the only human Green Lantern worth a damn, and the only one worthy to be in a pantheon with the likes of Supes and Wonder Woman.

He can be introduced peripherally as patrolling his sector rather than being a full-time Earth lantern for the sake of this movie.

I think the article described him well.

"John Stewart's story arc (as a marine, then an architect, then a Green Lantern) is layered and complex, the character himself is deep, noble and complicated, and his military background (combined with his architect precision) makes him one hell of formidable and inventive Green Lantern. "

simplicimus: Don't know much about GL outside of the movie, but he seems the only JL member who could credibly take Superman down.

Yep, to my knowledge he's the only GL whose will has ever exceeded the power of the ring itself.

Foxxinnia: Plus I can't help but feel like Hal Jordan is just kind of too dumb to take seriously.

You're right, Jordan is a moron. I don't know if he has ever been given a mission by the Guardians that he didn't immediately fark up.

Wasn't bad in Green Lantern, most of what was bad about that was the writing and plot outline from the word go. So IMO, you can't blame him.  Same for RIPD(decent enough popcorn flick, but nothign to write home about).

I liked him in the movie he did with Denzel Washington.(Safe House)

Which brings me back to the thread topic.

I can't see Denzel doing this.  He's been picking his own work for ages now, and is a class act on top of it(IE he never phones it in, he's always somewhat moving and genuine).  I could see him doing a super hero, but not as part of an extravaganza of relative unknowns and people like Affleck.

Not to dog on Ben Affleck a lot, but he's not much of an actor, he's a handsome face that gets typecast into non-challenging roles.

Jamie Foxx, on the other hand, is the unclassy version of Denzel, and I can see him doing something like this in a heartbeat.

/Disclaimer, didn't watch the last Superman yet.  Way behind on a lot of movies.
//Fiber optic is due to be finalized in January though

Let's not forget that Hall has been the only GL smart enough to fly away from a target at near - light speed, thus red - shifting his green energy attack into yellow and bypassing a Guardian's superior defense.

It helps that Larry Niven wrote that issue.

Well, I would guess Wonder Woman had not come out into the world yet, Green Lantern was probably off planet having his origin and training, and what the fark would Batman do against a bunch of Kryptonians besides becoming the Batstain in a heartbeat?

Working on his list.

It's the same problem with the Marvel movies, like where were the rest of The Avengers when Tony Stark's house got blown up or when the dark elves were trying to destroy the Earth in Thor 2?

My biggest concern is that Man of Steel felt like it was written by someone with a head injury, and throwing more heroes into the mix isn't going to magically fix that problem.

Denzel Washington is 58.  Assuming a few years to finish the film, a few years between sequels to the Man of Steel 2 / Justice League movie, and a few years to spin-off Green Lantern and reboot his solo films (and the solo GL sequels), I doubt DC would want a dude in his 70s in an action movie franchise.

Captain America, Black Widow, and Hawkeye were hanging out with SHIELD, they're having their own issues. Iron Man 3 would have started as weird terrorist attacks that SHIELD probably was looking into, then Tony was attacked, vanished off the grid, then popped up again after solving the problem and telling a sleeping Dr. Banner. Thor was on Asgard during this. Thor 2 took place over a few days at most, mostly off-planet, and Iron Man would have been the only one really handy to send, but he was undergoing surgery.
