Crazy, crazy schedule. So. Many. Games.

2013-12-28 07:30:00 AM
Debating which of the 8AM games to watch. Not sure how watchable AV/Swansea or Hull City/Fulham will be.  I'm curious how many goals City will pile up against Crystal Palace, but even that would get sorta boring after 6 or 7

Crazy turnaround time.  Boxing Day to today.  Lots of dead legs this weekend

2013-12-28 07:50:28 AM
Wow, Zombie Joe Cole with the goal

2013-12-28 07:51:09 AM
So it's that West Ham that is playing today

2013-12-28 07:51:55 AM
West Ham came to play, 1-0 in the fourth minute. The Baggies might be in for a long day.

Right after I changed my prediction from a Hammers win to a draw. *facepalm*

That might not be as stupid as it first looks. West Ham has only one centre half fit, and he hasen't played in the PL at all (and is on the bench).

Fortunately the game has slowed down a bit as the Baggies have retained more possession, but every time West Ham has the ball the horses are off and running.

And as a Liverpool fan, we thank you for that big money you paid out for Andy Carroll

There's my brother in red and white.

I know that Fernando Torres has been mostly a bust, but proportionally speaking, is there any bigger bust than Andy Carroll?

West Bromwich Albion: We Really Just Like To Pass

And Joe Cole. And Stewart Downing.

Norwich vs Man Utd. You just know MU will have to scrap for a last-minute draw or win.

Carroll scored some important goals for Liverpool during his time here, so he's not a complete failure. The award for buggest transfer bust still has to go to Jonathan Woodgate.

Real sure loves its busts. I didn't even remember Woodgate got bought until I saw a Worst Winter Transfers of All Time list. I'd also add Kaka, since he hardly ever got used.

I dunno, I have a soft spot for Charlie Adam. Oh and Christian Poulson

THERE we go. Well done, Anelka

Let me be clear here: I'm not disputing that Carroll in no way lived up to his price tag. But I do think that the label of "Biggest Bust Evar" should go to individuals who were absolutely useless. Carroll showed some flashes of brilliance, but only did so a couple of times in his career as a Red (two goal game vs City, scoring the winner in the FA cup semi-final, getting the assist for Kuyt vs United in the League Cup, almost dragging us level vs Chelsea in the FA Cup final).

Woodgate is such a bust that the Woodgate Special (score an own goal and get a straight red on your debut) has never been replicated. By anyone. Ever. In any Pro or semi-pro match. Men's or Women's.

Liverpool quality marking there.  And now come on West Ham

2013-12-28 08:34:33 AM
Wow, that is the softest of soft goals for Anelka. That looked like everybody on defense switched off

Okay I found it. 2005 against Bilbao. A team that was regularly fighting relegation for most of the decade.

Also, wiki says it was 2 yellows. Still hard to replicate.

Just to show Spain's love for him, he was voted the Worst Transfer of the Decade by Marca, with 37% of the vote. In a decade where people like Drenthe were signed, that's saying something.

And he was a SUB for that game too. He didn't even start the damn match. Subbing for an actually good defender, Helguera.

That's the footballing equivalent of Matt Barkley's performance in the NFL. Fail as fast as conceivably possible.

His second yellow's ridiculous enough. He shoulder-bumped the guy a few feet back. And he gives his best stonefaced "What." when the ref gives him his yellow.

The only person to come close in recent memory is Joe Cole getting a straight red on his league debut for Liverpool.
